The South Korean navy is conducting joint exercises with the U.S. as tensions with North Korea continue to rise, The Associated Press reported Saturday.
North Korea attempted a failed ballistic missile launch early Saturday morning local time, raising concerns in the U.S. as well as among Pyongyang's neighbors.
The South Korean navy said the exercises with the U.S. are meant for "deterring North Korea's provocations and displaying the firm alliance between the United States and South Korea."
Tensions are mounting between the United States and North Korea as U.S. officials look to contain Pyongyang’s nuclear ambitions.
North Korea earlier this month had launched a ballistic missile that also failed.
President Trump on Friday claimed that North Korea "disrespected" China's wishes with its latest ballistic missile test.
Trump called the missile test unsuccessful in his tweet that was aimed at putting distance between Pyongyang and Beijing, while praising Chinese President Xi Jinping as "highly respected."
