California Republicans had a lot to celebrate after last week's "jungle primary," in which all candidates for each office competed against one another regardless of their political party affiliation, and the top two vote-getters move on to the general election.
Voters were faced with 61 candidates seeking attention in the state’s gubernatorial primary. Despite the crowded field, Republican Steve Hilton was the top candidate taking 27.8% of the votes.
Democrat Xavier Becerra scored a close second earning 25.4%, while Democrat Tom Steyer came in third carrying 19.6%.Meanwhile, the Los Angeles mayoral race was also promising for Republicans.
While incumbent Democratic Mayor Karen Bass came in first pocketing 34.8% of the votes, political newcomer and Republican Spencer Pratt came in right behind her by grabbing 30.4% of votes.Nithya Raman appeared knocked out of the running, carrying 22.3% of the votes.

Hell hath no fury like Democrats’ scorn for Donald Trump promoting cleanliness and the country’s pristine original natural beauty. Or, also, when federal illegal immigration law is enforced.
That’s the lesson this week as Trump derangement syndrome reared its ugly head once more over Trump’s efforts to make America great again while exhibiting and relishing in American pride. There’s been a lot of talk over the last year about the “worst of the worst,” short of murderers and other violent criminals. These people are it. And honestly, to be frank, when this group of people includes those who assassinate conservative activists, plot to murder Immigration and Customs officers, throw Molotov cocktails at federal officers, or throw bricks at moving law enforcement vehicles, they are the violent criminal class, too.

There’s no spinning California’s disgraceful, third-world vote-counting mess

Officials in California have been warning the public for days that counting the state’s primary election votes, and thus determining which candidates have qualified for general election runoffs, is a process that could drag on for weeks. This isn’t terribly new or unusual in the Golden State; in 2024, for instance, one congressional race wasn’t called until roughly one full month after election day.
In Los Angeles, the leftist third-place finisher on election night has now stormed back to enter the top-two runoff, apparently leaving independent Spencer Pratt on the outside looking in. His sizable vote lead to qualify for the general election vanished over the course of the better part of a week, with one negative ballot drop after another relegating him to third place. Many people are understandably suspicious of this sequence of events. Whether one thinks this is entirely corrupt, partially corrupt, or fully legal under California’s procedures, it’s an indefensible way to administer an election.

The Department of Justice (DOJ) on June 8 announced that it has asked courts across the country to strip more than a dozen people who have pleaded guilty or been convicted of crimes of their U.S. citizenship.
Filings in federal court requested judges revoke the naturalization of 17 individuals, including Jean Claude Alfred, a 68-year-old Haitian native who became a U.S. citizen in 1994.
Federal officials said Alfred, who does not have a lawyer listed on the court docket, was convicted in 1996 of attempting sexual battery and indecent assault on his daughter, for conduct that began three years prior.
“[Alfred] concealed his crime throughout the naturalization process,” DOJ lawyers told the federal court in Miami.

Manfred Weber, leader of the European Parliament’s largest political group, called for the European Union to take a tougher trade stance toward China, warning that Beijing’s industrial overcapacity threatens Europe’s manufacturing base.
“The time of naivety is over,” Weber told German newspaper Bild am Sonntag on June 7. “We must defend European interests more clearly, more firmly, and more consistently.”
Weber is chairman of the Group of the European People’s Party, the center-right bloc that is the largest political group in the European Parliament. He is also a vice chairman of Germany’s Christian Social Union.
His remarks add pressure from Europe’s center-right before a June 18–19 meeting of EU leaders in Brussels, where the European Council’s provisional agenda includes global economic challenges.

President Donald Trump said U.S. troops would remain deployed in the Middle East until the ongoing U.S. military operation in Iran is completed.
“It costs us very little to keep them there. I don’t consider them in danger,” the president said, speaking with NBC’s “Meet the Press” on June 7.
“I think we'll keep them there until such time as we have a completion, and when we have a completion, you will see things as you’ve never seen,” he added. ”The oil will go down, the stock market already, as you know, it’s hit an all-time high. Even in the midst of it, it hit all-time highs.”
Roughly 50,000 U.S. troops have been deployed to the region. Since the conflict began on Feb. 28, 13 have been killed, which Trump said was “too many, but ... less than anybody has ever even envisioned.”

The United States won’t unfreeze Iran’s assets until a long-term peace deal to end the conflict in the Middle East is reached, President Donald Trump said on June 7.
“If they behave, if they do a good job, we start talking,” Trump said during an interview on “Meet the Press.”
Approximately $24 billion in Iranian assets are frozen by the United States.
Mohsen Rezaei, an adviser to Iran’s supreme leader, told CNN on June 5 that any peace deal would hinge on the U.S. releasing the stalled assets.
The Trump administration considered a plan to use some of Iran’s assets to help out neighboring countries that sustained damage during the three-month war, which started on Feb. 28.

President Trump lashed out Sunday at NBC’s ‘Meet the Press,” calling the news talk show “crooked” and ending an interview early over questions about recent elections in California.
In a heated exchange with host Kristen Welker, Mr. Trump reiterated his unsupported claim that the 2020 election was rigged and alleged election fraud in California, citing the state’s multi-day vote-counting process as evidence of cheating.
“The [2020] election was rigged. It was a dirty election,” Mr. Trump said.
“You’ve never presented evidence that the 2020 election was rigged,” Ms. Welker said.
“Right now … look at what’s happening in California,” the president said.
Ms. Welker asked for evidence and Mr. Trump said that four days had passed since the election and ballots were still being counted.
Ms. Welker said Republicans were doing well in California, but Mr. Trump said they were not “because it’s a rigged election.”
The two went back and forth, with Ms. Welker asking for evidence until Mr. Trump asked, “Do you think it’s appropriate that they have an election and five days later, they’re nowhere close to picking a winner?”

OPINION:
A secure border means a safe and prosperous America. That is a central tenet of the Trump presidency.
In the first days of President Trump’s second term, he moved with speed and force to halt the human invasion of illegal aliens across our southern border.
Now he is applying that same principle to America’s other border: the customs border.
Every day, millions of goods enter the United States through ports, airports, express carriers, warehouses and e-commerce channels.
Many come from honest companies that follow the rules, pay the duties owed and compete fairly. Yet too many come from bad actors that hide behind shell companies, foreign importers of record, phony paperwork, undervaluation schemes, counterfeit labels and transshipment routes designed to evade U.S. tariffs and trade laws.
That is neither free nor fair trade. That is customs fraud.
Mr. Trump’s new customs border executive order cracks down hard on the criminals, smugglers and trade cheats who evade tariffs, import illicit drugs and ship counterfeit, unsafe and/or illegally sourced products directly into American homes.
Just as importantly, the order will accelerate a new artificial-intelligence-enabled “Detective Border” now being rapidly deployed by an innovative Customs and Border Protection agency.

Iran fired missiles at northern Israel on Sunday in retaliation for the Israeli Defense Forces targeting what it called Hezbollah command centers in Beirut.
The IDF on Sunday said air defense systems were activated after missiles were detected headed toward Israel from Iran, marking the first direct Iranian attack on the Jewish state since an April ceasefire. Initial reports indicated that at least several missiles were launched, though it was not immediately clear if all of them were intercepted by Israeli forces.

President Donald Trump stormed out of an interview with NBC’s Kristen Welker after ripping the interview for being “crooked” and ranting about “rigged” elections.
The president’s interview aired Sunday on Meet the Press but was filmed on Friday while Trump was in Wisconsin for an agricultural roundtable. The interview was filmed inside a metal barn, with the president and Welker seated next to a tractor, and was interrupted several times by heavy rainfall.

The U.S. government will attempt to redirect Iranian assets to Gulf states for rebuilding and repairs of future damage caused by Iran, a source familiar with the matter said on Saturday, a day after a wave of attacks by Iran against Kuwait and Bahrain.
U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent has also directed a team to assess costs for damage already inflicted on Gulf allies by Iran, the source said, adding that the U.S. will consider using Iranian assets for those repairs as well.
The disclosure came a day after Mohsen Rezaei, an adviser to Iran's supreme leader, told CNN that a peace deal hinged on the release of $24 billion in Iranian assets frozen by the United States.
The source on Saturday did not specify what kind of assets the Treasury was examining.
The language used to describe the new measures did not appear limited to frozen assets.

On June 4, the 37th anniversary of the Tiananmen Square Massacre, internet users across China reported intensified online censorship, with social media platforms and messaging groups tightening controls on content related—directly or indirectly—to the date.
Multiple internet users told The Epoch Times that not only explicit references to the 1989 clampdown, but also indirect expressions, numbers, images, and even routine daily posts appeared to be caught in automated filters or subject to account restrictions. Some described the moderation as unusually strict, with one user saying the surveillance felt “almost frenzied.”
They spoke to the publication on condition of anonymity or only publishing their surnames out of fear of reprisal.

Central Command (CENTCOM) said its forces shot down four Iranian one-way attack drones on Friday as they headed toward the Strait of Hormuz, before striking coastal surveillance radar sites at Goruk and on Qeshm Island to prevent further launches.
In a statement posted on X, the command called the drones an immediate threat to regional maritime traffic in the narrow waterway that connects the Persian Gulf to the open sea.
CENTCOM said U.S. forces acted in self-defense following the drone launches and remained “vigilant and postured to respond to unjustified Iranian aggression.”
The statement came hours after CENTCOM rejected Iranian claims that its forces had fired warning shots at U.S. Navy warships in the Gulf of Oman and forced the American vessels to retreat toward the Indian Ocean. ...

OPINION:
On Wednesday morning, Republicans were celebrating runoff wins in California, where it appeared Steve Hilton would advance to the state’s general election for governor and reality-TV star Spencer Pratt would face off with incumbent Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass.
Still, only 57% of the Golden State’s votes had been counted. At this writing, a day later, the number dropped to 56% tallied.
We will not know the official election results until 37 days after the Tuesday primary, as that is the legal window California’s secretary of state has to officially certify statewide results. Already, Polymarket has Mr. Pratt dropping to third place in the Los Angeles mayoral odds, trailing Ms. Bass and democratic socialist Nithya Raman.
California, arguably, has the most asinine election system in the nation.
After the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, the Golden State endeavored to make voting easier by mailing ballots to every registered voter. Those ballots are valid as long as they are postmarked by Election Day and arrive at county election offices within seven days after the election.
This allowance is ripe for mischief.
Earlier this week, a lawsuit was filed against California’s secretary of state, alleging that 873,092 inactive voter registrations (meaning people who either moved out of the state or died) were still on the rolls, resulting in ballots being mailed to their old residences.

French President Emmanuel Macron is floating plans to woo President Donald Trump with a rare dinner at one of history’s most ornate palaces.
Macron is already set to indulge the U.S. president at the Alpine spa resort of Evian-les-Bains from June 15 to 17, but two French officials familiar with the matter told Politico that he could take things one step further by appealing to Trump’s well-known royal tastes. The Palace of Versailles, which became the envy of Europe after its construction by King Louis XIV in the late 17th century, rarely serves as a location for a diplomatic reception. Paris may be betting that an exception is well in order to flatter Trump at a time of strained U.S.-European relations.
The dinner will coincide with the final day of the G7 Summit on June 17. Many European leaders are viewing the summit with anxiety over Trump’s unpredictability. A French lawmaker from Macron’s party told the outlet that the summit was something European leaders “just need to get through.”
“We need to avoid a situation like in Canada last year, when Trump left [the G7] early, or a crisis over Greenland,” they said.

Hegseth: Europe Faces 'Invasion' of Dangerous Ideas

U.S. War Secretary Pete Hegseth warned on Saturday that Europe faced what he called an invasion of dangerous ideologies arriving by sea, linking immigration to the legacy of the D-Day landings in remarks in Normandy.
His remarks echo criticisms often made by the administration of President Donald Trump about Europe, a region Washington argues is hampered by weak defenses, inability to tackle immigration, needless red tape, and "censorship" of far-right and nationalist voices to keep them from power.
"Sadly, today, different European beaches are stormed by different, dangerous ideologies.
Beaches in Spain, Italy, Greece, and Bulgaria — boats and men arrive," Hegseth said in a speech at the Normandy American Cemetery in Colleville-sur-Mer.
"When will European capitals do something about that invasion or is it too late? I pray not, and I believe not," he said.

The U.S. Embassy in Israel issued a security alert on June 4 urging American citizens in the Middle East to exercise extra caution and identify the nearest shelter in case of potential hostilities in the region.
The alert was issued a day after Iran launched a drone attack on Kuwait International Airport, killing one person and injuring dozens of others. Kuwait’s Foreign Ministry said the attack damaged civilian facilities and forced the suspension of flights.
“Due to high tensions in the region, the security environment remains complex and can change quickly,” the embassy in Jerusalem said in its notice.

An 'Arctic Frost'-Style Investigation Could Be Prevented With This Bill

The Trump administration is once again signaling support for a nondisclosure order (NDO) reform bill being considered in Congress, which is aimed at preventing another "Arctic Frost"-style investigation. One source is confident it could pass by the August recess.
The post-2020 election investigation led by former Special Counsel Jack Smith resulted in phone records being obtained from numerous top Republican officials and figures without their knowledge. The decision to get the records led to intense scrutiny of telecommunications companies and Smith.
The “NDO Fairness Act” introduced by Rep. Scott Fitzgerald (R-WI) passed the House Judiciary Committee with a voice vote in November, and there’s a Senate version backed by Sens. Chris Coons (D-DE) and Mike Lee (R-UT) circulating in the Senate.
“The whole Administration is livid about what Jack Smith did during Arctic Frost to secretly seize cell phone records,” a Trump administration official, who was granted permission to speak on background to talk about the issue openly, stated to Townhall.
The Washington Free Beacon reported similarly in April that the bill had the administration’s support. Townhall reached out to the White House for comment.
“They took the president's private data and didn't even disclose it, same thing for Kash Patel and even Susie Wiles. We're hoping Congress can get their act together and pass something like the NDO Fairness Act so this can't happen again if Democrats take control,” the official added.
Coons said in a statement in January that “it’s too easy for law enforcement to access electronic records without informing the person they’re under investigation.”
A former GOP staffer who worked on the legislation noted that Democrats had viewed NDOs as a civil liberties issue prior to the Smith investigation.

House Panel Backs War Dept's $1.5 Trillion Budget, Rebrand

The House Armed Services Committee advanced the Trump administration's effort to rename the Department of Defense the Department of War on Thursday night, approving the annual Pentagon spending bill after a marathon session.
The committee passed the $1.5 trillion National Defense Authorization Act for fiscal 2027 by a 44-12 vote after 14 hours of debate.
Attached to the bill is an amendment from Rep. Ronny Jackson, R-Texas, a close ally of President Donald Trump, stating that "any reference to the Secretary of Defense or Department of Defense in any law, regulation, map, document, record, or other paper of the United States shall be deemed to be a reference to the Secretary of War or Department of War, respectively."
The amendment was approved on a party-line vote.
"American exceptionalism is BACK! During tonight's @HASCRepublicans NDAA markup, my amendment to RESTORE the name and legacy of the Department of War passed," Jackson wrote on X. "Proud to deliver on this priority and advance policies that put America First!!"
Congress created the War Department in 1789, led by a secretary of war, and it remained that way until 1947. The National Security Act Amendments of 1949 permanently changed the name to the Department of Defense, led by a secretary of defense.
Trump signed an executive order in September authorizing the use of the Department of War in place of the Department of Defense.

President Donald Trump on Friday said that he has urged acting Director of National Intelligence Bill Pulte to reduce the number of people overseeing intelligence in the government, saying there are “are a lot of people in there that shouldn’t be there.”
Speaking to the Wall Street Journal in an exclusive interview, Trump said he believes the Office of the Director of National Intelligence (ODNI), an agency that oversees 18 intelligence departments and units, should be reduced in size.
“I’d like to see it smaller. I think there are a lot of people in there that shouldn’t be there,” Trump told the outlet. He suggested that holdovers from previous administrations could be removed.

President Donald Trump, on June 4, said he had considered ordering a special operations mission to recover stocks of highly enriched uranium from Iran, but elected not to because of the risks.
“I didn’t want to be Jimmy Carter,” Trump said.
His comment about Carter came as an apparent reference to the late president’s 1980 decision to order special operations forces to attempt to rescue dozens of U.S. citizens taken hostage in Iran.
That Carter-era rescue mission, known as Operation Eagle Claw, ended in failure after eight U.S. service members were killed in an accident at a mission staging site inside Iran.

Justice Samuel A. Alito Jr. won’t retire until the Supreme Court overturns a roughly 30-year-old religious liberty precedent.
So says Mollie Hemingway, author of the recently released biography “Alito: The Justice Who Reshaped the Supreme Court and Restored the Constitution” (Basic Liberty). Ms. Hemingway, editor-in-chief of The Federalist online magazine, recently held a Q&A in Arlington, Virginia, where she offered her prediction.
“I am just going to speculate here: I personally believe, if you study his jurisprudence going back to when he was a federal judge, he cares deeply about Employment Division v. Smith,” the conservative columnist and commentator said.
“You see Alito on the 3rd Circuit working around Employment Division v Smith,” she said, recalling when the conservative justice was a circuit court judge in the 1990s before being sworn onto the Supreme Court in 2006.
In Employment Division v. Smith, the Supreme Court ruled that a state can deny employment benefits to someone who had used illegal drugs. The issue was that an American Indian worker had used peyote as part of a religious exercise and claimed that denying him benefits ran afoul of the First Amendment.

Trump builds the wall

TRUMP BUILDS THE WALL. Lately, there have been news stories expressing alarm about the rapid progress the Trump administration is making in building a wall along the U.S.-Mexico border. Whatever the stories are nominally about — environmental objections, questions about contracting, local concerns — their true headline is this: President Donald Trump is finally building the border wall he has promised for more than a decade.
Construction that was slow during Trump’s first term, and abandoned during Joe Biden’s time in office, is now accelerating in Trump’s second term. The key was the passage of last year’s One Big Beautiful Bill Act, which included $46.5 billion for the construction of what is now called a “smart wall” — that is, a wall that includes not only the basic structure but detection technology, cameras, lighting, and roads.
According to U.S. Customs and Border Protection, 221 miles of what is called primary smart wall are currently under construction. Contracts have been awarded, and design is underway for an additional 370 miles. Another 44 miles of replacement wall are under construction, plus 183 miles of secondary wall to provide backup security in high-traffic areas where there is already a primary wall.

Sen. Banks to Newsmax: Bolton Guilty Plea Exposes Critics' Hypocrisy

Sen. Jim Banks, R-Ind., on Thursday criticized former National Security Adviser John Bolton over an expected guilty plea in a classified documents case, saying the development undermines claims that prosecutions involving classified records are politically motivated.
During an appearance on Newmax TV's "Rob Schmitt Tonight," Banks said Bolton's reported decision to plead guilty contradicted arguments from media figures and others who had suggested the case represented an improper use of the Justice Department.
"All of the left-wing media figures who said that President Trump was weaponizing the Department of Justice against this guy, and then he ends up pleading guilty," Banks said. "It just goes to show the hypocrisy on the left."
Banks argued that Bolton's plea was an acknowledgment of wrongdoing.
"He pled guilty because he was guilty," Banks said. "He had classified documents that he kept illegally in his home for whatever purposes, whether it was to write a book or whatever it was."
Banks' comments came in response to past remarks by Bolton regarding the handling of classified documents cases.
Bolton had argued that prosecutors should pursue cases involving the improper retention of classified material if the evidence supports the charges.
"In this case, proceed with the prosecution and do the same for anybody else who does anything even remotely like it," Bolton said in June 2023 following the indictment of Trump on 37 criminal counts for conspiracy, obstruction of justice, and alleged illegal retention of classified documents.
"Read the indictment and ask yourself if the government can prove what they allege here," Bolton added.
He also questioned whether an individual should face prosecution solely for possessing classified documents, asking: "Shouldn't this man go to jail? The simple fact he had the documents for any reason or no reason should subject him to prosecution?"
Banks said Bolton had misled the public about his own conduct before ultimately pleading guilty.
"He lied all along," Banks said. "He pled guilty. And now he's going to be held accountable for it."
The Indiana senator also suggested the case should be viewed as evidence that officials who improperly retain classified information can face legal consequences regardless of their position.
