DOJ Seeks to Block 20K Calif. Ballots Over Citizenship

The Justice Department sued California on Thursday, asking a federal judge to stop the state from counting mail-in ballots from more than 20,000 registered voters federal officials say are likely not U.S. citizens.
The lawsuit names the state; Secretary of State Shirley Weber, a Democrat; and Los Angeles County's top election official, Dean Logan. It was filed in federal court in California.
It asks the court to bar officials from counting those voters' mail ballots in federal races "until those individuals' citizenship status can be verified." The Nov. 3 midterm election is less than three weeks away.

Rep. Lawler to Newsmax: 'We Are Going to Win in 19 Days'

Rep. Mike Lawler, R-N.Y., told Newsmax on Thursday that his Democrat challenger, Kate Conley, would be a "rubber stamp" for liberal policies that have driven up costs in New York, while predicting he will win reelection in one of the nation's closely watched congressional races.
Appearing on "Wake Up America," Lawler criticized Conley following their contentious second debate in New York's 17th Congressional District, accusing her of supporting higher taxes, restrictions on fossil fuels, and government-run healthcare.
"My opponent's not from the district. She parachuted in here for the sole purpose of running for Congress," Lawler said. "She doesn't own a home here. She doesn't pay taxes here."

SpaceX CEO Elon Musk denied reports that the company curbed its military-oriented Starshield satellite internet service in Ukraine, saying any limits on the service would have been imposed by the U.S. military.
“Starshield systems are owned and controlled by the US government,” Musk wrote on X on Oct. 14. “Any limits on speed or usage are decided by the US military and ultimately POTUS.”
Ukrainian officials on Oct. 14 began raising the alarm that their military’s Starshield services were stymied overnight, leaving gaps in their defenses as they contended with a significant Russian missile and drone barrage. According to Ukrainian officials, about 600,000 Ukrainians were left without power after Russian forces struck energy infrastructure across the country in their overnight strikes.

KALISPELL, Mont.—President Donald Trump has said that the Department of War has chosen Montana to host its new weapons testing site at an undisclosed location.
“Montana will help ensure the American military always reigns supreme,” Trump said during a GOP midterm campaign rally at the Majestic Valley Arena in northwestern Montana on Oct. 14.
“A lot of other people wanted it also.”
He described the new site as a “super range for testing advanced weapons and technologies, including potential autonomous weapons, space and electronic warfare technology, supersonics, and hypersonics.”

Japan will invest up to $21 billion to build two chip factories in New York under a trade agreement with U.S. President Donald Trump, as Washington seeks to expand domestic semiconductor production.
They will be jointly owned by the U.S. government and Japanese interests and operated by GlobalFoundries, the company said on Wednesday.
Construction of the first factory is scheduled to begin this year, with chip production expected in 2029. GlobalFoundries executives said the partners will decide whether to build the second factory before the end of 2028.
The initiative was part of a deal struck by the Trump administration last year for Japan to invest $550 billion in the United States. In return, the United States lowered its import tariff rate on Japanese cars and other imports from a threatened 25 percent to 15 percent.

An American journalist who spent 16 years in China as a columnist and editor for its state media was, for seven of those years, also on the payroll of the Chinese Ministry of State Security (MSS)—the civilian agency that runs Beijing’s foreign intelligence, counterintelligence, and secret-police work.
What made Thomas Weir Pauken II, 51, valuable to the Chinese regime was that he could enter the United States whenever he wanted.
On Sept. 1, a federal judge in Alexandria, Virginia, sentenced Pauken—arrested at a Washington hotel in February—to two years in prison.

A new memo sheds light on the extraordinarily long arm of the FBI as it investigated President Donald Trump — showing that the bureau gobbled up the personal data of at least 639,000 Republican donors, voters and supporters.
Former Special Counsel Jack Smith and the Biden Justice Department obtained data including the names, dates of birth, physical addresses, email addresses, and voter registrations of thousands of everyday Americans, according to the memo released Wednesday by Senate Judiciary Committee Chair Chuck Grassley.
Smith wielded the country’s most powerful law enforcement tools to nab data on Trump supporters who purchased MAGA hats, including their shipping addresses.
Smith’s sweep — though ostensibly focused on the events of January 6, 2020 — captured data back to 2005.
The documents suggest that Smith sought to ensnare the information of thousands of everyday Republicans, effectively treating them like parties to a criminal conspiracy due to their party affiliation.
Grassley, an Iowa Republican, said he had obtained the information in the memo from whistleblower disclosures.
“This update shows that Jack Smith and the Biden Justice Department collected incredibly invasive donor data — and voter data — beyond what could conceivably be necessary for Smith or his team to fulfill the Special Counsel’s mandate. The new findings further corroborate that Smith and his partisan team aimed to map out the entire Republican Party apparatus,” Grassley said in a statement in the memo. “I again call on my Democratic colleagues to join my oversight work instead of trying to defend Smith and sweep his abuse of authority under the rug.” (RELATED: Jack Smith Collected Banking Information On Thousands Of Trump Supporters)

Former Housing and Urban Development Secretary Dr. Ben Carson told Newsmax that Americans, particularly young people, do not know their own history or understand socialism and communism, and that his new Civics Bee is meant to get children interested in civics again.

Pope's Brother to Newsmax: Faith Helps Both of Us Face Cancer

Pope Leo XIV's older brother, Louis Prevost, told Newsmax on Tuesday night that their family is encouraged by the outcome of the pontiff's lung surgery and hopeful that he will recover and continue his ministry.
"They caught it early enough, and he'll be able to heal from the surgery and go on with his papal ministry," Prevost told Newsmax's "Finnerty."
Speaking from Tampa, Florida, where he is undergoing cancer treatment himself, Prevost said his brother had reassured him before the operation that doctors believed the lung nodule was small and had been detected early.
"So we were all in high hopes and high spirits hoping for the best," Prevost said. "And it sounds like, as it turns out, it's mostly good news."

Alaska's a big, big place geographically. Politically, not so much. Our population of about 737,000, around half of which live in the Anchorage area, limits us to a small role in American politics. We only get one representative in the House, three electoral votes in presidential elections, and in presidential election years, Alaska generally gets ignored by the presidential candidates. Our role in presidential elections is too small, we're a pretty reliably Republican state, and we're too far off the beaten path.

No other president has ever even appeared in public in Wasilla. Having a president even come to Alaska at all, except perhaps to refuel Air Force One, is an unusual event. But President Trump came to Wasilla, and Alaskans responded by swamping the venue and showing up in numbers unheard of in the history of the Great Land. That's heartening. And for me, despite never making it inside the venue, that made the whole day worthwhile.

Major banks closed accounts and refused credit to MAGA merchants, pro-life causes, religious groups, conservative organizations and sectors disfavored by the Biden administration, such as firearms, oil and gas, and private prisons, a bombshell report from the federal banking regulator has found.
The Debanking Review by the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency (OCC) investigated 100,000 complaints and scrutinized 50,000 internal bank records to reveal how customers were “debanked” based purely on their political, social, or religious beliefs.
JPMorgan Chase, Bank of America, Citibank, Wells Fargo, U.S. Bank, Capital One, PNC, TD Bank, and BMO Bank were found to have discriminated against American consumers, citing “reputation risk” as a reason to deny service between 2020 and 2025

Hong Kong health authorities have implemented screening measures for Russian arrivals after a laboratory worker at an anti-plague research institute in Siberia died from pneumonia, following some regions in China issuing plague risk alerts.
Hong Kong’s Centre for Health Protection (CHP) of the Department of Health said on Oct. 12 that, as a precautionary measure, it had implemented a series of control and prevention measures to guard against imported plague cases. Hong Kong health authorities are separate from the Chinese regime’s health authorities on the mainland.
These measures include temperature checks at airport gates for passengers arriving on flights from Russia, conducting health assessments for passengers exhibiting symptoms, and transferring them to public hospitals for further testing.

U.S. President Donald Trump said on Oct. 14 that a massive exploration for oil, gas, and minerals was preparing to begin in Greenland, the autonomous territory of Denmark.
Trump made the announcement in a Truth Social post, writing that some experts had indicated that the amount of available oil in Greenland is “far greater than that of almost any land, anywhere in the World.”
He did not provide details about the exploration project.
Trump also touted Greenland’s military strategic importance, saying that any future attack on the United States would have to pass through Greenland, where he said U.S. defense would “routinely knock down drones, missiles, or any other form of weapon not yet even conceived.”

Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent isn’t playing around: financial institutions that fail to enforce clear violations will be penalized. He did so, slapping Bank of America with a $1.2 billion fine for failing to follow anti-money laundering provisions and sanctions laws. It’s a massive fine, the third-largest in history (via CNBC) [emphasis mine]:

The Norwegian worthies who serve on the Nobel committee have demonstrated dubious judgment in the past.
In 1994, they gave Yasser Arafat a share of the Nobel Peace Prize for his “efforts to create peace in the Middle East.” Six years later, he walked away from the Camp David talks and the second intifada followed.
In 2009, the committee gave its gold medal to President Obama “for his extraordinary efforts to strengthen international diplomacy and cooperation between peoples.”

Homeland Security agents executed a search warrant for the D.C. home of Rep. Ilhan Omar, reportedly as part of a long-running investigation into fraud allegations concerning the Somali-born congresswoman’s immigration paperwork.
Finally.
This is a woman who has thumbed her nose at America, even as she’s benefited greatly from America, and all primarily at taxpayers’ expense. The Minnesota Democrat condemned President Trump, condemned the entire MAGA movement, condemned America’s strongest ally, Israel, and sought to use her political platform to tear down the very Western values that have given her such expansive opportunities in the first place.

Pope Leo XIV was diagnosed with lung cancer following surgery to remove a section of his lung on Oct. 13, the Vatican announced.
Surgeons removed the lower lobe of the pope’s right lung during the 90-minute procedure and examined it during the operation.
The pope was diagnosed with “lung adenocarcinoma,” a common type of non-small cell lung cancer, after testing confirmed the finding.
Following the operation, Pope Leo asked for dinner and spent time visiting with his secretaries and other staff, according to the Vatican’s Holy See press office.
He is expected to stay in the hospital for a week.

A multi-month law enforcement operation has led to the arrests of 491 criminal fugitives living in government-assisted housing.
The multi-agency initiative, Operation Clean House, was carried out by the Office of Inspector General (OIG) of the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) along with the U.S. Marshals Service and other state and local law enforcement partners across 12 cities, including Memphis, New York City, Chicago, Los Angeles, Minneapolis, and Columbus, Ohio, HUD said in an Oct. 8 statement.
“We will not allow criminal predators and fraudsters to use HUD housing as a haven or live freely on the taxpayer’s dime,” HUD Secretary Scott Turner said in the statement.

In 2024, falls claimed the lives of 43,020 Americans aged 65 and older, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), a 51% increase over a decade. Falls remain the leading cause of injury-related death in this age group.

Poll: Less Than Half Trust Midterm Vote Count Accuracy

Fewer than half of likely voters believe all the votes in the midterms will be counted accurately, a poll released Tuesday found.
The NewsNation-Decision Desk HQ (DDHQ) poll found 46% of likely voters expect an accurate count. Another 27% said they were only concerned about the counting of mail-in ballots, while 14% said they believed Republicans would change the vote count, and 13% said they believed Democrats would do so.
Asked whether their view on the accuracy of the count affected their likelihood of voting, 29% said it had no impact, and 22% said it did and that they needed to vote to overwhelm fraud. About 3% said the concern demoralized them and made them less likely to cast a ballot, while 46% provided no answer to the question.

China is using big data analytics to identify and enroll workers who lack state pension coverage amid mounting fiscal strain due to an aging population and economic downturn.
The initiative, announced by Vice Minister of Human Resources and Social Security Li Zhong on Oct. 10, also seeks to move more migrant workers, gig workers, and others in flexible employment into a pension plan that requires substantially higher contributions.
These workers in China are those without stable employment and often are the low-income population. Analysts who spoke to The Epoch Times say Beijing is targeting this vulnerable group to raise revenue.
Xu Zhen, a veteran figure in China’s capital markets, told The Epoch Times that the shift could significantly increase the amount workers pay into the system, even as many struggle with unstable employment and stagnant incomes.

Musk Pours $276 Million Into GOP Midterm Push

Tech billionaire Elon Musk has poured more than $276 million into Republican political groups since July, bankrolling a massive effort to help the GOP fend off Democrats and retain control of Congress in November's midterm elections, The New York Times reported Monday.
The contributions make Musk the largest known political donor of the 2026 election cycle, providing Republicans with a financial boost as they seek to maintain their House and Senate majorities.
According to figures provided to the Times by Musk's representatives, the Tesla and SpaceX chief executive contributed $158 million to the Senate Leadership Fund, a major super PAC supporting Republican Senate candidates.

Social Security Commissioner Frank Bisignano said Monday the program will survive another 90 years, expressing confidence in its future despite warnings that its trust fund faces a major funding shortfall within the next decade
"This is a long journey. It's 90 years old. It'll be around for another 90 years," Bisignano said during an appearance on CNBC's "Squawk Box."
The Social Security Administration is set to announce its 2027 cost-of-living adjustment Wednesday, potentially delivering a sizable increase in benefits to millions of Social Security recipients.

US Envoy: NATO Must Modernize to Counter Russia

NATO must modernize its military infrastructure to move troops and equipment more efficiently from Western Europe to its eastern flank, where a future conflict with Russia would most likely occur, U.S. Ambassador to NATO Matthew Whitaker said Monday.
Speaking at the Warsaw Security Forum in Poland, Whitaker urged European allies to strengthen their defenses as the Trump administration reassesses U.S. military commitments overseas.
Whitaker emphasized the importance of military mobility and "moving things from the west to the east," identifying outdated bases, fuel supply networks, and agreements governing U.S. troop deployments as areas requiring modernization.
