Sen. Tim Scott: GOP Can Hold Senate Despite Toss-Ups

National Republican Senatorial Committee Chair Sen. Tim Scott, R-S.C., reportedly told colleagues the GOP can retain control of the upper chamber despite "a record number of toss-up races" in the midterms.
Scott delivered the message during a closed-door meeting of Senate Republicans on Wednesday, with less than six weeks remaining before Election Day, according to Semafor.
"We're in the fight for our lives with a record number of toss-up races," Scott told senators, sources confirmed to CBS News.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu praised President Donald Trump's "bold leadership" in a speech before the United Nations on Thursday, crediting the president and the United States with playing a decisive role alongside Israel in confronting Iran and crippling its military and nuclear capabilities.
Speaking before the U.N. General Assembly in New York, Netanyahu portrayed the U.S.-Israel partnership as essential to stopping what he described as an existential danger posed by Tehran.
"In this battle against the barbarians, we've had no greater partner than President Trump," Netanyahu said. "I thank him. I thank him for his bold leadership."

Lithuania, Costa Rica, and the United States have launched an international initiative aimed at supporting democratic change in Cuba, bringing government representatives together with Cuban dissidents and civil society leaders on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly in New York, Breitbart reported Thursday.
The initiative, dubbed "Nations for a Free Cuba," emerged from a Tuesday meeting hosted by Lithuania and led by Lithuanian Foreign Minister Kęstutis Budrys.
Participants discussed building international support for Cuban civil society and democracy advocates. Lithuania's Foreign Ministry confirmed Budrys met representatives of the Cuban diaspora to discuss human rights, democracy, and international support for civil society.

WASHINGTON—Giant portraits of prisoners of conscience illuminated the facade of the National Gallery of Art’s East Building on Wednesday evening, as rights advocates sought to thrust Beijing’s human rights abuses into the spotlight during Chinese leader Xi Jinping’s state visit.
Organized by the Human Rights Foundation, the visual campaign transformed the museum facade into a rotating canvas spotlighting eight prisoners of conscience in China—a former student leader, a legislator, a professor, a doctor, a dissident artist, and three pastors.
The display opened by displaying the name “Xi Jinping” in stark white lettering on a solid red backdrop, then cycled through calls to “release” each individual, pairing their faces and names with symbols of their defiance against the Chinese Communist Party (CCP).

The chairman of the Senate Armed Services Committee does not share President Trump’s enthusiasm for Chinese President Xi Jinping’s state visit this week.
Sen. Roger F. Wicker took to the Senate floor to announce that if he had been asked, Mr. Xi would not have been invited or given the planned, grandiose state visit culminating in a White House banquet set for Thursday.
The chairman then outlined a number of issues he wants Mr. Trump to raise with the Chinese Communist Party leader at the dinner, including a response to reports that China supplied Iran with intelligence that led to the deaths of Americans in the Middle East, and about Beijing’s “massive” military buildup.
“This summer, it was all over the press that China gave Iran satellite imagery intelligence, and that intelligence led to the death of American troops,” the Mississippi Republican said.
“So I would certainly suggest that the president try to get an answer to that.”
Mr. Wicker said Mr. Trump will correctly discuss trade and artificial intelligence with Mr. Xi and “perhaps some progress will be made.”
“But, Mr. President, during every minute of dialogue, our commander in chief should keep in mind that his guest is a brutal, unelected and oppressive dictator who seeks to dominate his neighbors, and whose massive military arsenal is aimed directly at the United States of America,” Mr. Wicker said in the floor remarks referring to the presiding Senate officer as Mr. President.
Mr. Trump has been relatively quiet about the summit and dinner but in the past has praised his close relationship with Mr. Xi.

According to the FBI and local law-enforcement accounts, early this year a tip from a house cleaner prompted federal agents and local officers to search a Las Vegas property.
The authorities reported finding thousands of pieces of evidence, including containers of unknown substances.
Court documents identify the property as registered to a company owned by Jia Bei Zhu, a Chinese national who has also used the names Jesse Zhu and Qiang “David” He. Zhu was in U.S. custody at the time. The laboratories and Zhu are the subject of a new Epoch Times documentary, “The 2nd Lab,” premiering on Sept. 23.
Zhu, who has been in U.S. custody since his arrest in 2023, was initially set to be sentenced on Aug. 24 after a jury found him guilty of one count of conspiracy to commit wire fraud, eight counts of substantive wire fraud, two counts of distributing adulterated and misbranded medical devices, and one count of ...

Twenty-nine-year-old Palestinian Mahmoud Muhammad Mahmoud Suleiman rammed a checkpoint in the West Bank Wednesday afternoon, critically injuring the son of the Israeli Ambassador to the U.S., Yechiel Leiter.
Neria Leiter, a reserve soldier, was manning the checkpoint, which is near the settlement of Beit Horon, and was rushed to a hospital in Jerusalem. The assailant was shot and killed at the scene.

U.S. arms sales to Taiwan are being weighed against America's own military requirements and the capacity of the U.S. defense industrial base, as lawmakers press the Trump administration to release billions of dollars in stalled security assistance to Taipei, Secretary of State Marco Rubio said Wednesday, The Hill reported.
Rubio said the administration cannot consider weapons sales to Taiwan in isolation, because equipment transferred to foreign partners is equipment that is temporarily unavailable to American forces.
"People think … we view arm sales through the limited vacuum of the one particular place," Rubio told reporters at the U.N. General Assembly. "A lot of this also involves balancing our industrial capacity and our military industrial base."

U.S. President Donald Trump told the United Nations on Tuesday that there is no global government and vowed there will be no global taxes while he is president.
Trump made the remarks at the U.N. General Assembly in New York, saying the United States had helped implement sweeping reforms at the international body, including a 15 percent cut to its 2026 budget and the elimination of more than 4,000 positions from U.N. bureaucracy.
“The United Nations has great potential, I’ve said that for many years, but it must stop imposing the far-left agenda of globalist bureaucrats who nobody ever elected,” he said.
Trump said his administration had to intervene last year to stop the International Maritime Organization, a U.N. body, from “secretly establishing a first-ever global carbon tax.”

“He’d be like, ‘Honey, I’ve been spinning up the press longer than you’ve been alive,” Leavitt said on Fox News Media’s Hang Out with Sean Hannity. “And he is right.”
Leavitt spoke with Hannity on a wide range of topics, including Trump’s interactions with reporters, being in the Situation Room during high-stakes operations, and what led to her decision to leave the high-profile role. Leavitt has often spoken on how the president would do well as his own press secretary.
“He taught me, you know, every news cycle comes and goes, like, this too shall pass,” Leavitt said. “And his resilience is remarkable. I mean, he has been through so much. More hatred, more adversity than any politician ever in our nation’s history.”

It's an absolutely failed State, it's failing like never before, and it will fall," Trump said in his speech to the U.N. General Assembly.

President Donald Trump and the leaders of Denmark and Greenland inked a deal the president called “long in the making” to allow the United States to put two military bases the large island between the United States and Europe.
The president said during his earlier remarks at the United Nations General Assembly that the agreement “gives the United States permanent control over security and all other needs on that territory.”

President Donald Trump revealed a major decision he is considering in the conflict with Iran during his Sept. 22 address to the U.N. General Assembly.
In his speech, Trump reiterated his administration’s position that Iran cannot be allowed to obtain a nuclear weapon and outlined how the U.S. military has targeted Iran’s navy, missile capabilities, and nuclear development.
“But now I have a big decision to make: Will a deal be made with Iran that lets them rebuild and create a far greater country than it ever was before, maybe one of the greatest in the Middle East or even the world?” Trump said on Sept. 22.

Trump made this announcement during his address to the United Nations General Assembly.
“No U.S. adversary will ever be permitted to establish a military presence in Greenland anymore, or make sensitive investments there without our express written approval,” he said. “We will immediately begin the process of developing a large military presence in the appropriate locations. We will be building two very major military bases.”

The United States has reaffirmed its support for Japan and South Korea, with all three nations stressing their backing for Taiwan and the preservation of a “free and open” Indo-Pacific region.
U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio met with Japanese Foreign Minister Motegi Toshimitsu and South Korean Foreign Minister Cho Hyun on the sidelines of the U.N. General Assembly in New York on Monday.
A joint statement released by the State Department on Sept. 21 said the United States “reiterated its ironclad commitments to the defense of Japan and the ROK, backed by America’s unmatched military strength, including its nuclear capabilities, and reaffirmed its extended deterrence commitments to Japan and the ROK,” using the initials for the Republic of Korea, South Korea’s official name.

Artificial intelligence will be at the forefront of the upcoming meeting between President Donald Trump and Chinese leader Xi Jinping, according to several sources familiar with the matter.
Beijing will be willing to discuss some risks arising from the rapidly developing technology but won’t share information that could give the United States an edge, as the regime views AI as a strategic asset and an area where it may be able to surpass the United States, some sources said.
The Chinese Communist Party (CCP) leadership has put the full weight of the regime behind AI development in recent years, making it a pillar of China’s increasingly state-run economy. U.S.Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said on Sept. 21 that all of Iran’s airlines will be shut down across the globe on Sept. 23 as the United States targets Iran’s aviation sector.
“If they land, you cannot provide them with fuel, you cannot provide them with landing services, you cannot sell them tickets, or you will be knocked out of the dollar system,” Bessent said in a Sept. 21 interview with CNBC.
The United States will begin imposing secondary sanctions this week on foreign entities that continue to provide services to Iranian airlines, according to Bessent.
Bessent’s announcement comes nearly a month after the United States launched Operation Economic Outcast. Since the start of the operation, the U.S. government has imposed new sanctions against Iran. It has also targeted dozens of entities and individuals that serve as financial lifelines for Tehran in an effort to isolate Iran’s economy.

However, as a military professional, I see a failure of the Australian government, a generally complacent Australian population, and an ill-prepared Australian Defense Force capable of confronting this looming threat.
It doesn’t require a military genius to recognize that the best defense against a threat is readiness to adequately defend or offensively confront that threat. While it is not prudent to be openly hostile toward the Chinese, it is wise to be prepared for the worst and hope for the best. China is not likely to allow a replay of the successful WWII island-hopping Pacific campaign against the Japanese; therefore, Australia must demonstrate preparedness and a willingness to confront that threat.

Strength and readiness are always deterrents against aggression.
In the past, the Western world has been able to buy the battlefield in terms of time, distance, and money. However, in view of new and emerging technologies, we neither have the time, distance, nor money to adequately defend ourselves properly, unless we are proactive in appropriately preparing for the threat.
There are three issues that the Australians should actively confront nationally to improve their preparedness for the worst-case scenario.
First, the Australian government needs to:
1. Immediately establish an increased ADF funding stream that enables the rapid expansion of the force before the nation is confronted with a war with China.
2. Cancel any existing agreements with China that allow them control of Australian ports and/or facilities. Inviting the fox into the hen house is never a smart thing to do.
3. Seek a broad international agreement to establish and expand military training opportunities on Australian soil with external and regional allies.
Second, the Australian people should be organized into a civil-military organization — a home guard, if you will — that would complement and/or reinforce the active-duty ADF military establishment in time of war.

"Everybody knows the Crooked Joe Biden FBI didn't do what they should have with respect to the Lunatic who shot me in Butler, PA," Trump posted on Truth Social Tuesday morning.
It’s been more than two years since Donald Trump was shot at his campaign rally in Butler, Pa., and the president still has not been given a satisfactory answer for why 20-year-old Thomas Crooks came within a fraction of an inch of assassinating the then-candidate.
It sounds like Trump is angry about it — and he has every right to be.
“Everybody knows the Crooked Joe Biden FBI didn’t do what they should have with respect to the Lunatic who shot me in Butler, PA,” he posted Tuesday morning.
“By the time I got into Office, on January 20th, most of the information was missing, altered, corrupted, or gone.
“New info was just found! Why wasn’t it seen long ago?
“This was all a Democrat Plot, to get me out of the Election, that failed. Dirty Cop Christopher Wray [the director of the FBI at the time] should pay a price for the way he handled this assassination attempt, and certainly for the things he said.”
The White House confirmed the president’s “spray” was prompted by new information about Crooks (pictured at right on the day of the assassination attempt) extracted from the FBI by Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa) and published exclusively in The Post that day.

Republicans are supporting President Trump’s ban on three left-leaning news outlets from the White House, arguing that Mr. Trump has been more accessible to the press than any other president and that President Biden did more to restrict press access.
U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations Mike Waltz said Sunday on CNN’s “State of the Union” that Mr. Trump “is absolutely within his rights” to bar CNN, Politico and MS NOW from the White House if he believes those news organizations “are not behaving in good faith as journalists.”
House Majority Leader Steve Scalise, Louisiana Republican, brushed off concerns that Mr. Trump was restricting media access to the White House.
Mr. Trump has spent countless hours answering questions from dozens of media outlets inside and outside the White House, far surpassing any of his predecessors, Mr. Scalise said.
Many reporters have his cellphone number, and when they call, he answers.
“I don’t think we’ve had a president that’s been more open to the press,” Mr. Scalise said on ABC’s “This Week.”
Senate Majority Whip John Barrasso, Wyoming Republican, told NBC’s “Meet the Press” that the three-outlet ban does not violate the Constitution.
“The press has an obligation to report fairly. And the president doesn’t see it happening that way,” Mr. Barrasso said.

President Donald Trump invited the public to vote on a new name to replace “artificial intelligence” on Saturday.
“Many people think that the words ‘Artificial Intelligence’ are inaccurate, and very ineloquent,” Trump said in a Truth Social post. “A far more eloquent and accurate description of this new phenomena would be Superior Intelligence (SI) or, Extreme Intelligence (EI) or, Supreme Intelligence (SI). This is a poll, and I would appreciate everybody voting! Which is the best name for this ever growing ‘Revolution?'”
