Jim Banks Has a Message for Republicans About What’s at Stake This November

Sen. Jim Banks will deliver remarks Monday night in which he declares that the next generation of Republican leadership can be simultaneously “America First” and unequivocally pro-Israel, according to excerpts of his speech obtained by Townhall.
Banks is unequivocal in his support of President Trump, America, and Israel, saying, "I was proud to put on the uniform and serve my country in Afghanistan. I am proudly pro-Trump. I am proudly America First, and as a next generation leader for the Republican Party, I am proudly and unapologetically pro-Israel."
Then he turns his sights to the midterm elections and emphasizes the importance of electing Republicans.
"Ladies and gentlemen," Banks says, "as we look to this November, it is more important than ever that Republicans win across the country. From reelecting Jon Husted in Ohio, the real Dan Sullivan in Alaska, and Susan Collins in Maine, to ensuring we elect new Senators like Ashley Hinson in Iowa and Mike Rogers in Michigan, we have a lot of work to do."
Earlier this month, Banks revealed that a pledge was circulated to House Democrats. It was a simple request: Democrats were asked to pledge that they are capitalists, not socialists. Only 10 of 212 Democrats signed the pledge.

In July 2023, Jewish organizations in the seven largest Jewish communities outside Israel founded a task force to battle the rise of antisemitism in their democracies.
These Jewish groups could not have foreseen that less than three months later, the fifth defeated Islamic genocidal war against Israel since 1948 would be launched and simultaneously coordinated with an explosion of antisemitic attacks in their countries.

The U.S. Supreme Court issued an order Aug. 31 allowing construction of President Donald Trump’s White House ballroom project to continue while the administration contests a lower court order that would block much of the development.
The justices voted 5–4 to grant the federal government’s request to stay a lower court’s order halting above-ground construction of the ballroom while a lawsuit against the project by a historic preservation group plays out.
The majority said the plaintiff in the underlying lawsuit, the National Trust for Historic Preservation in the United States, appeared to lack standing, or the right to bring a lawsuit.

KOROR, Palau—Taiwan’s participation in a regional summit in the Pacific has highlighted Palau’s determination to pursue its own diplomatic choices despite growing pressure from Beijing.
Palau is hosting this year’s Pacific Islands Forum (PIF) Leaders Meeting, bringing together leaders of the region’s foremost 18-member bloc, including Australia and New Zealand. It has invited Taiwan to participate in events associated with the gathering after last year’s host, the Solomon Islands, excluded Taipei and other development partners, despite Taiwan’s participation in the forum since 1993.
The Solomon Islands and two other forum members, Kiribati and Nauru, switched diplomatic recognition from Taipei to Beijing in recent years, as China made efforts to isolate Taiwan and assert its communist rule over the self-ruled island. Palau and two other forum members, the Marshall Islands and Tuvalu, are among Taiwan’s 12 remaining diplomatic allies.

Letitia James exposed as fighting only for revenge, not justice

When Letitia James first ran for Attorney General, I condemned her for what I viewed as an unethical campaign based on a promise to prosecute Trump without bothering to name any particular crime.
Now we know how she set about in fulfilling that pledge. According to whistleblower Daniel Wiesenfeld, a former Brooklyn prosecutor who works in the Investor Protection Bureau, James produced her chosen defendant and ordered her staff to find a crime, any crime.
Wiesenfeld sent an email to call on fellow lawyers not to assist James further in weaponizing her office. He recounted his own experience as a prosecutor in her office and how Bureau Chief Shamiso Maswoswe allegedly directed him to target “Trump himself, Truth Social, Hewlett Packard (DOJ approved merger) . . . without having a credible reason for targeting the organizations and individuals.”
He added that “If you believe Trump is using the [Department of Justice] attorneys to prosecute his enemies and further his political interests, you should find it equally troubling that Tish [James] is doing exactly the same thing.”
In his blistering email, Wiesenfeld reminded his colleagues that they have other things to do than hunt down James’ enemies. While she wastes “significant public taxpayer dollars to target convenient public enemies,” Wiesenfeld reminded them that there is “rampant nonprofit homeless shelter fraud and antisemitic crimes in and around synagogues.”
Instead, James concentrated on an absurd civil case against Trump where the “victims” made money, lost nothing, and wanted more business from the Trump corporation.

Bessent: More Iran Bank Sanctions Coming This Week

The Trump administration plans to impose sanctions on another bank this week in an effort to clamp down on Iran transactions, Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said Sunday.
Bessent spoke with The Associated Press ahead of Group of 20 meetings in Asheville, North Carolina, where he will meet individually with his counterparts from the world's major and developing economies to encourage participation in the economic isolation of Iran.
"This is going to be financial violence if we have to," Bessent said in the interview. "We are showing people that we know who you are, you know who you are, and this has got to stop."
Bessent had recently announced a new campaign to push countries that still do business with the already heavily sanctioned Islamic Republic to sever their financial ties or face retaliation from the United States.
Treasury's first official action in this campaign was a proposed rulemaking on Friday, which would, if finalized, sever the Emirati branches of Banque Misr, Egypt's second-largest bank, from access to the U.S. financial system.
In stopping short of imposing sanctions on the Egyptian bank, the Republican administration appeared to be signaling its reluctance to penalize major trading partners that do business with Iran, including China and India, whose officials Bessent will have meetings with this week.

U.S. Forces struck two Iranian rocket launchers loaded with sea mines on Larak Island in the Strait of Hormuz on Aug. 30.
“Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps forces were observed preparing to launch rockets with sea mines into the Strait of Hormuz,” U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) spokesman Navy Capt. Tim Hawkins told the Epoch Times in an email on Aug. 30.
The strikes were an attempt to protect operations in the crucial waterway after CENTCOM completed the clearing of sea mines from the strait’s international shipping routes last week.
The Aug. 30 attack on the Iranian island marks the first military action by U.S. forces in a month.

A nuclear renaissance could be an important Trump legacy

The Army announced Wednesday that its Janus Program has selected five companies to build nuclear microreactors at five military installations, committing up to $2.2 billion to an effort that could eventually put more than 20 reactors across War Department facilities.
It is the latest evidence that President Donald Trump’s revival of American nuclear power could become the most consequential legacy of his second administration.
Janus grew directly from Trump’s May 2025 executive order directing the military to operate an Army-regulated advanced reactor at a domestic installation by Sept. 30, 2028. The Army launched Janus in October 2025, a step we approved of at the time, and this week paired Antares Nuclear with Fort Bragg, BWXT with Fort Campbell, General Atomics with Fort Hood, Radiant Industries with Fort Benning, and Westinghouse with Fort Drum. The reactors will be contractor-owned and operated, with federal payments tied to achieving certain technical milestones.

Benjamin Franklin’s warning has echoed across nearly 250 years of American history. Asked what kind of government the Constitutional Convention created, he famously replied, “A republic, if you can keep it.”
Not everyone today wants to maintain those constitutional arrangements. Our organization just released a comprehensive 64-page report exposing a well-funded political machine working to manipulate nearly every stage of our republic’s democratic machinery, from voter registration and the census to redistricting and the Electoral College.
The evidence reveals a coordinated campaign funded by left-wing foundations, labor unions, activist organizations, and “dark money” networks. Their objective is not simply to persuade voters. It is to rewrite the rules, reshape the electorate, and restructure our institutions until Democrats enjoy a permanent political advantage.
Consider Georgia; when the state enacted election-integrity reforms in 2021, President Joe Biden condemned the law as “Jim Crow 2.0.” Progressive groups predicted widespread voter suppression and raced to the courthouse to stop it.
The suppression never happened.
Research released by the left-leaning Voter Participation Center found that turnout among so-called “underrepresented” constituencies actually increased in Georgia during the 2024 election. Participation among African Americans, Latinos, Asians, voters under 35, and unmarried women increased by nearly 200,000 votes, or 6.8 percent.
The very organization that warned election safeguards would suppress voters produced research showing the opposite. Are we shocked?

Bessent Defends US Intervention to Support Yen

Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said disorderly moves in the yen could trigger "forced unwinds" of positions, risking destabilizing global markets and ultimately raising borrowing costs for U.S. households and businesses.
Bessent made the comments in a letter dated Aug. 27 and posted on his X account a day later. The letter responded to Sen. Elizabeth Warren’s demand for an explanation of Washington’s joint currency intervention with Tokyo last month.
The post came as the yen resumed weakening against the dollar despite expectations that the Bank of Japan could raise interest rates in the near term.
Japan and the United States carried out a rare coordinated yen-buying intervention July 31, signaling their determination to prevent a sell-off in the yen and Japanese government bonds from spilling over into global markets.
Although the yen has recovered from a 40-year low of nearly 164 per dollar reached last month, it has weakened back toward 160 after surging to 155.20 shortly after the intervention.

Chinese artist Gao Zhen was recently sentenced in China to three years in prison over artworks he created nearly two decades ago, which insiders say illustrates how Beijing is expanding its efforts to criminalize criticism of the regime and its leaders.
Gao, 70, was sentenced on Aug. 25 by a court in Sanhe, a city in China’s Hebei Province, for insulting “heroes and martyrs.” He was arrested by Chinese police in August 2024 while returning from New York to visit family in China. He has been held in Chinese custody since then.
Gao is a U.S. permanent resident and has a young son who is a U.S. citizen. He moved to the United States in 2022.

If the state attorney general’s job were to stage nonstop flashy political stunts appealing purely to her party’s base, Letitia James would rank New York’s best ever, hands down.
Yet that’s not the job, and James’ myopic focus on politics ill-serves her actual duties and the people of New York State.
Consider: Since taking office, James has filed endless legal motions and issued literally hundreds of press releases focused exclusively on attacking President Donald Trump or blocking his agenda.
This month alone, her office sent out a dozen releases (three a week!) blasting Trump — on commercial driver’s licenses, gun rights, mail-in voting, Title X funds, immigration enforcement and more.

Azerbaijani ambassador praises Trump as ‘true peacemaker’ after historic Azerbaijan-Armenia deal

President Donald Trump surprised the world this month after announcing that two longtime enemies, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev and Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, would be meeting in the Oval Office to sign a historic peace agreement.
The diplomatic coup gives the United States its most significant position of influence in the Caucasus, an area historically out of its purview. In an interview with the Washington Examiner, Azerbaijani Ambassador Khazar Ibrahim praised Trump’s leadership as essential in securing the deal. He claimed Baku was confident that Trump would bring about positive developments in the Caucasus from day one of his second term, after enjoying favorable relations during his first term.
“We saw a strategic vision. And of course, President Trump is a true leader, a true peacemaker. So that’s why we knew from the very beginning, after he was elected, that there will be more efforts, not only in our region, but all around the world, for peace, prosperity, and development,” Ibrahim said. “So, therefore, it came very naturally that the new administration was interested in bringing peace and development to the region, and we worked together, and here we are.”

Trump administration helps end Armenia and Azerbaijan’s forever war

Before launching Operation Epic Fury against Iran on Feb. 28, one of President Donald Trump’s favorite refrains was that he “ended” eight wars during his first year-plus back in office.
On closer examination, the reality is more complicated. Half of the conflicts mentioned saw a quick return to fighting, or Trump had claimed credit for halting fighting in conflicts where no hot war was taking place. The other three saw peace remain elusive, paused only as delays to larger wars.
But Trump does have diplomatic bragging rights in one case: the conflict between Armenia and Azerbaijan, which erupted shortly after the late 1991 fall of the Soviet Union, which both had been part of until independence just before that one-time global superpower collapsed. It’s a war Trump appears to have both stopped and transformed into a lasting peace. His administration did so by locking two of the world’s most bitter rivals into a framework favoring cooperation.

Nepal-China flood survivors reach safe areas as families await news of nearly 3,000 missing

NUWAKOT, Nepal (AP) — Most arrive with nothing except the clothes they are wearing.
As rescue efforts in communities buried by catastrophic flash floods along the border between Nepal and China entered their fourth day Saturday, authorities continued finding survivors and transporting them to safety. At relief centers, as some arrive, families wait anxiously for news of their loved ones as the death toll and the number of people unaccounted for continued to rise.
After Nepali authorities updated their figures Saturday, the combined toll in Nepal and Tibet rose to 676 dead and nearly 3,000 people missing. Chinese authorities have reported seven deaths and more than 550 missing.

Florida Republican Lt. Gov. Jay Collins told Newsmax the state's new communism-education mandate is now reaching grades six through 12 this school year, using survivors of communist regimes to help build the curriculum.
Collins, who sponsored the measure as a state senator before Gov. Ron DeSantis appointed him lieutenant governor in August 2025, appeared on Newsmax's "America Right Now" on Saturday to defend the rollout and urge other states to adopt similar rules.
"We don't have to take socialism and communism for a test ride. We know how it turns out. It destroys communities, countries, and cultures every single time," he said. Florida is "focused on developmentally appropriate introductions and discussions on ideology, movements, regimes, tactics, and consequences."
Senate Bill 1264, signed by DeSantis on the 63rd anniversary of the Bay of Pigs invasion, requires age-appropriate instruction from kindergarten through 12th grade. State Board of Education standards approved in November 2025 cover communist movements in the United States and Latin America, the conditions preceding communist revolutions, and atrocities under regimes such as Mao Zedong's Cultural Revolution.
Collins said the lessons will name names and explain methods.

China has removed two top generals from its highest military command body and expelled two other senior commanders from a Communist Party-controlled legislature, as turbulence continues within the upper echelon of the country’s armed forces.
Once China’s No. 1 general, Zhang Youxia, has been removed from the national Central Military Commission (CMC), according to a brief statement issued by the National People’s Congress Standing Committee via state media Xinhua on Aug. 28.
The statement didn’t offer any reason for the swift dismissal of Zhang, who had served as vice chair of the national CMC since 2018.

Federal officials on Aug. 28 arrested a foreign national living in California who they say illegally registered to vote and made false statements.
Darwin Jonathan Rivera Flores, 30, a Honduran national and lawful permanent resident living in Southern California, is accused by prosecutors of making felony false claims of being an American citizen on voter forms. He faces two charges—making a false claim to U.S. citizenship and fraudulent voter registration.
Rivera, who entered the United States in 2002, was also accused of physically disrupting federal immigration operations during a protest at the federal office earlier this year in Camarillo, California. For that, he was given a misdemeanor citation before pleading guilty and receiving a one-year probation sentence, said the Department of Justice (DOJ) on Aug. 28.

Poland and Pentagon officials are in discussions about possibly locating several American military bases in the country, Polish Deputy Defense Minister Paweł Zalewski said after a meeting of the North Atlantic Council at NATO headquarters in Brussels Aug. 27.
Zalewski said he met with Pentagon policy chief Elbridge Colby about plans for the bases and defense policy.
“The American presence in Poland can encompass various defense capabilities,” Zalewski told Polish Radio after the meeting. “We believe it doesn’t have to be concentrated in one place. Of course, there are several locations we want to discuss with the U.S. side where such a presence would be truly massive. However, we are still talking about several bases and several locations.”

Spanish protesters and migrants clashed with police and each other in Ceuta, one month after a horde of over 70,000 Moroccan migrants abruptly swarmed the small Spanish enclave.
Footage of the mass of migrants storming the territory of just 84,000 people sparked a national crisis, and Madrid’s socialist government has struggled to contain it. The vast majority of the migrants left soon after arriving, upon finding a lack of transportation to Europe and a lack of accommodations, but thousands remain. Madrid claims 7,000 still remain, while Ceuta officials put the number closer to 10,000.
Tensions boiled over this week when crowds of Spanish locals began protesting, then rioting, over the migrant camps, while migrants began attacking police. The enclave’s small police force was quickly overwhelmed and unable to bring the protesters or migrants under control.
A police spokesperson said on Thursday that a military vehicle carrying four soldiers was “ambushed” by a mob of about 70 migrants, who pelted it with stones and other objects, AFP reported.

Just what the hell are the Canadians thinking? Do they think that if they cry enough, America’s going to roll over? We’re now in another trade war with them, and the Canadians are whining, and the Democrats — who never side with America — are whining right along with them. It’s about time to be done with the country that is touted as America’s best buddy but is actually tied for its most annoying next-door neighbor. They cry that America is being mean because it’s looking out for its own interests. How dare America expect Canada to pull its weight on its own defense? How dare America not want to perpetuate unfair and unbalanced tariff and trade rules in perpetuity? The Department of State has updated the travel advisory for Israel, the West Bank, and Gaza, warning about health risks in Gaza.
Gaza has been designated as “Level 4: Do Not Travel,” the most severe of the four State Department travel advisory levels.
“Emergency and intensive care facilities are limited in Gaza. Hospitals and clinics lack basic resources,” the Aug. 26 travel advisory update said.
“If you use assistive or medical devices that require a power supply, be sure to find backup power or other ways that will sustain your device or equipment without access to power.”
The advisory asked people to ensure that their insurance includes medical evacuation coverage, and to check with their doctor about required vaccines and shots for high-risk exposure prior to visiting Gaza.

HOUSTON—President Donald Trump signed an executive order launching the U.S. Space Academy on Friday during a ceremony at NASA’s Johnson Space Center, where he awarded the Congressional Space Medal of Honor to four astronauts who crewed the Artemis II mission.
Administration officials are directed to submit a proposal within 120 days to establish the Space Academy, under NASA’s leadership, to provide technical education and degree programs needed to train the next generation of leaders to help guide NASA, Space Force, and businesses in the private sector.
“It will attract, train, graduate the very best of our nation, that our nation really has to offer,” Trump said. “But first, we have to honor the heroes who are inspiring the next generation of astronauts and pioneers.”
The president applauded the dozens of individuals in NASA’s astronaut corps on the stage behind him before recognizing the Artemis II crew.

The United States on Aug. 28 sanctioned another Hong Kong company that the Treasury Department says helped an Iranian exchange house launder money through an overseas financial network.
The Treasury Department’s Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) said Hong Kong-based Kameng Trading Limited has allowed the sanctioned Iranian Pedram Pirouzan Exchange House, also known as Opal Exchange, to use it “to launder money for Iran.”
The OFAC said Kameng was designated for operating in Iran’s financial sector. Its property and interests in property subject to U.S. jurisdiction are blocked, and U.S. persons are generally prohibited from transactions involving the company.
On its website, Kameng describes itself as a supplier of heavy equipment, industrial machinery, and spare parts, with services including warehousing, freight forwarding, and customs clearance.
