Joe Biden has a Hunter problem, and it’s not going away. We saw that during the former Vice President’s tone-deaf appearance Sunday on “60 Minutes.”
Before we get to the interview, some context: In February 2014, Ukrainians pushed out President Viktor Yanukovych, widely reviled for both tolerating corruption and delaying and then rejecting a popular agreement that tied the country closer to the European Union. Mr. Yanukovych escaped to Moscow, where Vladimir Putin gave him refuge.

The White House releases a statement defending President Trump against Democrats' 'illegitimate' impeachment probe after the House approves rules for the inquiry; John Roberts has more on the reaction.
It’s official now. Democrats are careening toward the impeachment of a president and dragging the American people along with them. In today’s mass media age, it will consume this nation like few other events ever have.
I outlined a broader strategy for the GOP in my recent article for Fox News Opinion: “Republicans must win the impeachment trial – and they can by following these five steps.”
At this point, the formal House vote deprives the Republicans the right to subpoena witnesses without the permission of Adam Schiff – the man who has repeatedly lied to the American people. That is a stark departure from the procedure that was afforded the minority party under Nixon and Clinton.

Before we talk about them, you might ask the question: What is an impeachable offense?
The Constitution explicitly states: "Treason, Bribery, or other high Crimes and Misdemeanors." That is the easy part when it comes to presidents. Treason and bribery are easily defined but “other high Crimes and Misdemeanors” are not.

This week Australia joined 22 other countries to condemn China at the United Nations over its horrifying treatment of the Uighur ethnic minority within its own borders.
The response from the rest of the world was beyond disheartening.
The Uighurs are a Muslim minority group native to Xinjiang, the supposedly autonomous region situated in China’s northwest.
China has been systematically targeting them, incarcerating Uighurs en masse and attempting to stamp out their culture.
It’s built a series of complexes in Xinjiang, which it describes as perfectly innocent “vocational training centres”. In truth, they are modern day gulags where torture and other human rights abuses are rife.
As many as two million Uighurs have been imprisoned in them.

Sen. John Cornyn says impeachment push indicates Democrats are worried about 2020
Texas Senator John Cornyn, a Republican member of the Senate Judiciary Committee, said Wednesday that House Democrats' impeachment effort will not bring closure to the political polarization in America.
The impeachment inquiry against President Trump is the only way for Democrats to win in 2020, Sen. John Cornyn said Wednesday.
Appearing on "America's Newsroom" with host Bill Hemmer, Cornyn, R-Texas, said that House Democrats are increasingly worried that the eventual nominee from their party can't beat the president in the upcoming election.

"And, starting this incredibly unfair and secretive process with Adam Schiff...leaking selectively the storyline that they want," he added.
He said Pelosi knows that impeachment is an "incredibly divisive issue," and questioned why she would "want to put the country through this one year before the next election.

Goodwin: History will not be kind to Nancy Pelosi

One way or another, Nancy Pelosi will go down in history. Let’s hope she doesn’t take America with her.
The speaker’s decision to go all in on impeachment is fraught with danger and could have fateful consequences far beyond Donald Trump’s presidency. With only about a year to go until the 2020 election, Pelosi has thrown her full weight behind the effort to undo the results of 2016.
This is a historic mistake, one that could tear America apart. Based on the evidence the House has made public, impeaching Trump is a meritless, reckless assault on democracy.
Anyone who believes our country is now a polarized tinderbox ain’t seen nothing yet. Trying to remove the president on the flimsy charges that he illegally pressured Ukraine for investigative help would quicken the national crack-up that’s been building for years.
Pelosi’s timing is both cynical and bizarre. A full House vote on an impeachment inquiry, which could come Thursday, probably means she is aiming to consider articles of impeachment this year.
The rush suggests an acceptance of the reality that there will be nothing in those articles that would sway 20 Senate Republicans needed for conviction and removal, so the aim is to please the radicals in her own party and be done with it as soon as possible. Thus, Pelosi is ready to throw America into chaos simply as a political favor to the Democrats’ wing-nuts so they won’t run primaries against her leadership team and committee heads.
Pelosi isn’t leading, she’s following.

Unlike the rolling blackouts of 19 years ago, today’s outages cannot be stopped with a simple act of regulatory courage, which then consisted simply of guaranteeing that suppliers would get paid for power they supplied under long-term contracts.

Back then, a feckless governor dithered. Over 11 months, residents suffered blackouts that in their totality are already exceeded by just one of the intentional outages called in recent weeks to protect utilities from wildfire liabilities.

They are understandably focused on minimizing their own financial liability rather than weighing the trade-offs that outages impose on the public.

The Russia origins investigation is ongoing at the Department of Justice. It’s now a criminal probe, and Attorney General William Barr and U.S. Attorney John Durham are working to figure out how the country became engulfed in the collusion hysteria. For over two years, Democrats and their allies in the liberal media peddled the Trump-Russia collusion myth. It was a total hoax. And the basis for all of this rests with the debunked Trump dossier that was compiled by ex-British spy Christopher Steele after being contracted by the research firm Fusion GPS. And who hired Fusion to quarterback this wild goose chase? That would be the Hillary Clinton campaign and the Democrats. This unverified piece of political opposition research was viewed as credible evidence in securing a FISA spy warrant against former Trump campaign official Carter Page.
Since then, the FBI’s reputation as a professional and impartial investigative law enforcement body has taken a hit. Fired FBI Agent Peter Strzok and his mistress, bureau lawyer Lisa Page, were the focal point in the deep state antics that have been alleged throughout the Trump administration’s first term. The two exchanged tens of thousands of texts. All were anti-Trump. Strzok texted about how this little crew would “stop” a Trump presidency and referenced an insurance policy, which many have alleged is the Trump dossier. Strzok was a key person in both the counterintelligence probe into the Trump campaign and the FBI’s analysis of the Hillary Clinton email server. This deserves all the scrutiny, especially after it turned out to be a huge nothing burger.
James Comey, the former FBI director, was fired for giving sensitive documents relating to his meetings with Trump to a friend with the intention of leaking them to the press in order to get a special counsel investigation going. And that’s exactly what happened.

Everything about the national media’s framing of the impeachment effort is aimed at convincing the public of the laughable notion that this is about doing what’s morally right and wrong.
It’s not. It’s about a naked power grab by an established order in Washington that feels threatened by another four years of a president who doesn’t do things their way.
If Trump were accused of picking any Democrat at random and asking that a foreign government make up a lie implicating them in some crime or corruption, then impeachment might be a moral imperative. But that’s not what he did, and that’s why this cooked up controversy over his call with Ukraine has been impossible to understand from the beginning.

Mitch McConnell: Impeach resolution denies Trump ‘basic rights’

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell said Wednesday morning that a Democratic resolution on impeachment set to be voted on Thursday in the House of Representatives would deny President Trump the “most basic rights of due process.”
From the Senate floor, McConnell (R-Ky.) specifically called out House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Trump-basher Adam Schiff, chairman of the House Intelligence Committee, for their impeachment efforts and called it “a bizarre process.”
He described “an impeachment inquiry as about the most solemn and serious process the House of Representatives can embark on,” but said that “instead of setting a high bar, House Democrats seem determined to set a new low.”
The veteran GOP senator labeled Schiff “a de facto special prosecutor” and criticized Pelosi for starting with a press conference rather than a vote in the House.

Lawmakers say Adam Schiff directed impeachment witness not to answer Republicans' questions
Reps. Steve Scalise and Jim Jordan say the American people are being denied equal justice.
Rep. Adam Schiff is a poor man’s Harry Houdini. He is a cheap illusionist performing amateurish parlor tricks of deception in his quest to convince his audience that he possesses damning evidence of an impeachable offense committed by President Trump.
Schiff, D-Calif., has no such evidence, of course. But like most illusionists, Schiff employs misdirection and confusion. He attempts to convince you that opinions are evidence, while facts are not. This is the stuff of rank political magic where perceptions are distorted through clever manipulation of the process.
Schiff has become the master manipulator aided, in large part, by the secrecy of his faux magic act. He won’t allow you to peek behind the curtain to see for yourself the witnesses he has called in his “super top secret” impeachment inquisition. You are never permitted to view transcripts of depositions or examine testimony that purports to incriminate the president. That, of course, would ruin all the hocus-pocus.

Republicans have spent weeks trying to pierce the veil of secrecy. At the very least, this new action will establish some fundamental rules of fairness and transparency that are the bane of pretend-illusionists like Schiff.

Democrats have been trying to suggest they have the goods on Trump. But fact is, none of the witnesses they have called so far have any firsthand knowledge of presidential wrongdoing.
Behind closed doors and with no media allowed, House Democrats have tried to put on the appearance of a legal proceeding. At the end of each session, they leak what they claim happened. The media are all too willing to play along, printing the Democratic pols’ claims as if they were fact.
“Powerful testimony from multiple State and national security officials,” The Hill reports, adding up to a “scathing picture of Trump and his allies withholding nearly $400 million in security aid from Ukraine.”
Politico called the testimony of Bill Taylor, the acting envoy to Kiev, “explosive” — though Taylor’s prepared statement merely regurgitated what other State Department bureaucrats had told him. His source was the rumor mill. It’s called hearsay.

The public isn’t stupid, and Pelosi is a far better politician than Schiff. Polls show fewer than half of voters supporting impeachment in key swing states like Wisconsin, Florida, Pennsylvania and Michigan. These are states Trump won in 2016, and Pelosi has been reluctant to put Democratic members from these states on the spot. Trump called her bluff.
Now the Democrats will have to put up or shut up.

Despite coming into office with a budget surplus of around $36 billion and enjoying favorable approval ratings, California Gov. Gavin Newsom’s first year in office has been anything but tranquil.
Newsom, who spent the previous eight years as lieutenant governor to Democrat Jerry Brown, has in the first 10 months of his term had to take the helm in dealing with a slew of pressing issues from a massive homelessness crisis and rising housing costs to sky-high gas prices and decaying roads.
STRENGTHENING WINDS INCREASE SIZE OF MENACING KINCADE FIRE
Now, with the state entering its traditional fire season, Newsom is grappling with massive wildfires everywhere from Los Angeles to the state’s storied wine region, while also fighting to limit blackouts by Pacific Gas & Electric Corp., the state’s largest utility provider -- in what is posing a complex and urgent challenge for his administration.
“The next 72 hours will be challenging,” Newsom said during a press conference over the weekend. “I could sugarcoat it, but I will not.”

Between the raging wildfires and the blackouts, California is now offering an abject lesson in the perils of wishful thinking. The state’s leaders may blame climate change or big utility companies, but in reality it’s their own damn fault.
By Monday morning, Pacific Gas and Electric had broken its record for households blacked out — the company’s effort to avoid the downed live power lines that can start fires. Yet high (but not record-setting) wind gusts are still triggering wildfires, and not just in PG&E’s service area.
Why have 10 of the state’s 20 largest, most deadly fires ever occurred in the last decade? Because its forests are now twice as dense as they were 150 years ago — when the population was a fraction of today’s.

Sen. Lindsey Graham, R-S.C., on Monday praised President Trump for his “bold move” in overseeing a military raid that resulted in the death of ISIS leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi and urged the president to “keep your foot on the throat” of ISIS fighters to ensure they don’t come to the United States.
The chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee said on Fox News’ “Hannity” that, in destroying the psychical caliphate, “we’ve just killed their spiritual leader of the ISIS movement… that’s the Nazis without Hitler. So this is a big deal.”

President Trump revealed Sunday that U.S. Special Operations forces finally eliminated Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, the longtime leader of ISIS.
"He was a sick and depraved man,” the president said, without having to exaggerate. “And now he’s gone. Baghdadi was vicious and violent, and he died in a vicious and violent way, as a coward, running and crying. He died like a dog. He died like a coward. The world is now a much safer place."
There are a lot of similarities between Baghdadi’s death and the 2011 raid that killed Osama bin Laden. Both Baghdadi and bin Laden were world-renowned terrorists who ordered or inspired the murder of many, many, many Americans. Both were on the run from the United States and international forces. Both met their ends eventually, cornered like cowards. One area where the two events differ, however, is in American news coverage.
To wit, U.S. news media went wild for former President Obama, heaping praise on him for his "gutsy call" of giving the bin Laden raid the go-ahead.
For Trump, the news coverage has been the exact opposite of what we saw in 2011. It has been both weirdly reverent of the slain ISIS leader and critical of the White House.

"There's a lot coming," Hannity said. "We got the Horowitz report on FISA report ... my sources tell me it will shock the conscience and soul of the nation and when the Durham report comes out, that will similarly shock the conscience and soul of the nation about abuse of power and corruption," said Hannity during this year's Politicon in Nashville, Tenn., on Saturday.
WHERE IS THE FISA REPORT?
For weeks, it’s been speculated the long-awaited review of alleged surveillance abuses by the Department of Justice and the FBI during the investigation into Russia’s purported meddling in the 2016 presidential election could drop any day — though Hannity believes a November release is likely.
"We know it's finished, it still hasn't been released to the public, and we've seen delay after delay after delay," Hannity said in an earlier segment of his show.
For more than a year and a half, Inspector General Michael Horowitz has been investigating alleged misconduct related to the FISA warrants delivered by the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Court (FISC). The Justice Department and the FBI obtained warrants in 2016 to surveil Trump adviser Carter Page. It is unclear, at this point, if Page was the only Trump official that the DOJ obtained a FISA warrant against.

That highly anticipated report will likely spark new congressional investigations and deliver critical information to other federal reviews probing allegations of abuse by the Justice Department and the FBI.

President Trump protected American troops by keeping House Speaker Nancy Pelosi in the dark about the raid that killed Islamic State leader Abu Bakr al Baghdadi, a Senate Republican said.
“If you’re worried about our troops, you can tell that, I mean — Pelosi hates Trump, and she’s going to do everything she can to hurt him,” Florida Sen. Rick Scott told the Washington Examiner. “And you can’t trust them. I think Trump made a good decision.”
Scott, a Republican member of the Senate Armed Services Committee, echoed Trump’s suggestion that Pelosi might have endangered U.S. forces by leaking information about the raid. Trump's stance drew condemnation from Democratic lawmakers, as the death of the world’s most wanted terrorist provided another opportunity for a partisan dispute in Washington.
“I told my people we will not notify them until the — our great people are out,” Trump told reporters on Sunday. “Not just in, but out. I don’t want to have them greeted with firepower like you wouldn’t believe.”

U.S. forces assaulted al-Baghdadi's compound in Barisha, Syria and found the ISIS leader hiding in a tunnel where he detonated a suicide vest.
Islamic State spokesman Abu Hassan al-Muhajir, considered a potential successor to terror leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, also was killed in Syria in a separate attack by U.S. forces, a senior State Department official confirmed to Fox News on Monday.
Al-Muhajir had been considered a “number two” to al-Baghdadi, according to the official.
The second U.S. military operation took place in Turkish-held Jarabulus in northern Syria, a 3-hour drive from where al-Baghdadi was killed near another border town with Turkey, Fox News has learned.

Congresswoman Katie Hill’s sexual relationship with a much younger intern is a classic “MeToo” situation, and on Sunday, she belatedly realized the gravity of her offense and now plans to resign.
But it shouldn’t have taken so long — more than a week during which she was aggressively defended by hypocritical defenders on the left.
By claiming that Hill was the victim of a political smear, she and her supporters showed no concern for the vulnerable 22-year-old who was preyed upon by her boss and who now, two years later, is bereft, abandoned and a self-described “mess.”
The same people who demonize males for far less gave Hill a free pass for her egregious abuse of power.

After President Trump announced the killing of ISIS leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi in a top-secret raid, Sen. Graham spoke at the White House press briefing and thanked the president for killing the ISIS leader and destroying the caliphate.
Graham said he was very encouraged with what he sees in Syria. He characterized the president's strategy in the war on terror as "Maybe a new strategy that focuses on building up the lives of people in the region." Graham explained, "having a small footprint of Americans led by the local populations and securing the oil is a really smart idea... That's how ISIS survived so long," he explained.
Graham then credited President Trump for destroying the caliphate. "When it comes to terrorism, the president changed the rules of engagement. You think the caliphate destroyed itself? He made a conscious decision when he went to Iraq to change the game when it came to destroying ISIS. He's had a determination to destroy the caliphate, unlike anybody I've ever met," Graham said.
