Britain has found itself at odds with the US over Syria after Donald Trump’s administration announced that American policy would no longer focus on getting Bashar al-Assad to relinquish power.

The UK and the Obama administration both spent years saying that Mr Assad’s brutal tactics during the Syrian war meant that he had lost legitimacy and must step down to allow for a political transition in Syria.

But the Trump administration appears to have backed away from that position, saying the question of whether or not Mr Assad stayed in power was no longer a priority for the US.

"You pick and choose your battles and when we're looking at this, it's about changing up priorities and our priority is no longer to sit there and focus on getting Assad out,” said Nikki Haley, the US ambassador to the UN.

Michael Fallon, the defence secretary, said the UK does not “see a long term future in Syria for someone who has been bombing his own civilians”.

And then

Under Barack Obama the US gave some arms to Syrian rebel groups but most of its focus was on equipping forces to fight against Isil rather than the Syrian regime. Mr Trump's policy places even heavier emphasis on the anti-Isil front and even less on the opposition to the Syrian regime.

Trump signs executive orders to crack down on trade abuses, increase enforcement

Published March 31, 2017 FoxNews.com

VIDEO: Will executive orders on trade bring back jobs?

One week before he hosts a meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping, President Trump on Friday signed a pair of executive orders aimed at cracking down on trade abuses and identifying the causes of America’s massive trade deficit.

“We’re going to get these bad trade deals straightened out,” Trump said from the Oval Office. “The jobs and wealth have been stripped from our country, year after year, decade after decade, trade deficit upon trade deficit reaching more than $700 billion last year alone and lots of jobs.”

The first executive order concentrates on tougher enforcement of anti-dumping laws and increasing the collection of anti-dumping penalties and so-called countervailing duties -- a mechanism used against foreign governments that subsidize their producers and sell goods at below-market prices.

HILLARY'S EMAIL SCANDAL NOT OVER YET

Lawsuit filed after feds refuse to do routine evaluation of harm from 'extremely careless' handling

Donald Trump joked during the presidential campaign that the Russians should try to find the missing emails of Democrat Hillary Clinton, who used an unsecured server while she was secretary of state, and that perhaps he would authorize an investigation that might put her in jail if he became president.

But since Trump’s huge victory over Clinton in the 2016 presidential race, he’s largely been quiet about any misdeeds she committed in violation of the trust Americans gave her when she was appointed by Barack Obama.

Others, however, have not.

The newest move comes from Judicial Watch, which has sued the federal government for not carrying out a routine assessment of the damage that may have been done to America’s security by her actions.

The case against the Office of National Intelligence and the Department of State is intended to force the government to produce a report that details whether Clinton’s scandalous private email practices damaged national security.
