It’s been a gruesome mystery for years: the wrecks of wooden boats crewed only by skeletons found adrift in the Sea of Japan.
But these ‘ghost ships’ have become a macabre spectre: More than 150 washed ashore last year alone. Some are split in half. Others are empty, but eerily intact. Some carry dead crews. A few hold steadfastly silent survivors. All were clearly North Korean.
Japanese authorities assumed the poverty-stricken fishers had sailed too far for too long in a desperate hunt for increasingly scarce fish. Or that they were defectors from North Korean leader Kim Jong-un’s authoritarian regime.

Beyond Black Lives Matter’s drive to eliminate police brutality is a far more extensive leftist ideology that would upend American economic and social life, according to an examination of BLM leaders’ writings and interviews.
BLM’s principal founders have sought guidance from Karl Marx, Mao Zedong and Venezuelan strongman Nicolas Maduro. One talks of the “psychosis of whiteness.”
BLM leaders say they want capitalism abolished. Sixty years since the civil rights era began, America is still a place where the state routinely oppresses Blacks, as the world seeks their “demise,” the group alleges.

State officials and the U.S. Department of Agriculture are investigating reports that hundreds of residents have received seeds in the mail they didn’t order.
Agricultural officials across the U.S. have launched probes after residents received unsolicited packages of seeds that appear to have mostly originated from China. Mike Strain, Louisiana’s commissioner of agriculture and forestry, which is investigating packages received in that state, said the USDA is also investigating the matter.

Twitter is a national security threat

Over the past few years, Twitter has coarsened the political discourse, aided outrage mobs, exposed the bias and ignorance of many media figures, and provided a forum for a president to vent his unfiltered thoughts. But the social media platform is increasingly turning into something much worse — a national security risk.
Earlier this month, scammers were able to access the accounts of high-profile users and send out tweets from their accounts imploring people to transfer them money. They only managed to steal about $120,000, but more worrisome was the fact that outsiders were able to gain temporary control of the accounts of Barack Obama, Joe Biden, Jeff Bezos, Bill Gates, and Elon Musk.
At the time, Twitter said that they believe the attackers orchestrated a “social engineering scheme” in which Twitter employees were manipulated, allowing the hackers to gain access to their credentials, which were then used to access the accounts. Twitter said that 130 accounts were targeted, and scammers were able to gain access to 45 accounts, enabling them to reset passwords, log in, and send tweets. In up to 36 cases, the hackers were able to gain access to users' private communications with other users, known as direct messages. One of those was an elected official in the Netherlands.
Further, Reuters reports that as of earlier this year, more than 1,000 Twitter employees and contractors had access to the tools needed to commandeer accounts in this manner. That is a startling revelation, given the number of high-profile users on the platform, as well as the incredible incentives that bad actors would have for taking them over.

Should prominent individuals, and especially world leaders, continue to use Twitter as a platform, the company needs to have some sort of special status for elite users whose accounts could, if hacked, alter world events in such manner. That would involve additional security precautions and a more limited number of employees with the security clearance to access the relevant tools. A smaller number of employees would be easier to vet. It would also be easier to monitor their actions and make them more fearful of getting caught if they let themselves be manipulated into providing credentials to hackers.
The bottom line is that Twitter currently poses a national security threat that must be addressed.

In his first-ever appearance before the House Judiciary Committee on Tuesday, Attorney General Bill Barr will condemn the "grave abuses" in the "bogus Russiagate scandal," while also highlighting Black-on-Black violence and defending law enforcement officers in no uncertain terms, according to a transcript of his prepared remarks obtained by Fox News on Monday night.
Barr's unusually aggressive posture will be matched by a full-throated defense from GOP lawmakers on the panel, including ranking member Rep. Jim Jordan, R-Ohio, Fox News is told.
"Ever since I made it clear that I was going to do everything I could to get to the bottom of the grave abuses involved in the bogus Russiagate scandal, many of the Democrats on this committee have attempted to discredit me by conjuring up a narrative that I am simply the president’s factotum who disposes of criminal cases according to his instructions," Barr is expected to say at the outset of his remarks. "Judging from the letter inviting me to this hearing, that appears to be your agenda today."
Barr will go on to deny that Trump has improperly interfered with any of his decisions, before pointing to statistics showing progress on racial-justice issues, according to his prepared remarks.

"Police forces today are far more diverse than ever before; there are both more Black police chiefs and more Black officers in the ranks," Barr is expected to say. "Although the death of George Floyd – an unarmed Black man – at the hands of the police was a shocking event, the fact is that such events are fortunately quite rare. According to statistics compiled by the Washington Post, the number of unarmed Black men killed by police so far this year is eight. The number of unarmed White men killed by police over the same time period is 11. Some unarmed suspects, moreover, were physically attacking officers or threatening others at the time they were shot. And, the overall number of police shootings has been decreasing."

The violence perpetrated in the streets of cities across America continues because state and local elected officials (all Democrats) refuse to do what is necessary to stop it. These acts no longer fit the definition of protest. Rather, sedition defines them: “incitement of discontent or rebellion against a government.”
President Trump has ordered agents from the Department of Homeland Security to quell the disturbances in Portland, Oregon, and Chicago, which appear to be coordinated, and stop them from spreading to other cities. On Wednesday, the White House announced the deployment of what it terms “federal assets,” which Attorney General William Barr defined as “street agents and investigators,” to targeted cities experiencing the most violence.
Some contend the president is exceeding his constitutional authority and what’s known as the Posse Comitatus Act of 1878, which “prohibits the use of U.S. military forces to perform the tasks of civilian law enforcement such as arrest, apprehension, interrogation, and detention unless explicitly authorized by Congress.”

It may be splitting hairs to say DHS forces are not the military, but the larger question is this: Should the president allow federal property to be destroyed and people shot, given the refusal of some mayors and governors to intervene? Or, for the sake of preserving “domestic tranquility,” saving human life and protecting public and private property take the action he has taken?

Declassified FBI document shows intel briefing to Trump and Michael Flynn may have been used to advance in Russia probe; Doug McKelway reports.
The fabulist behind the infamous and discredited anti-Trump dossier has finally been exposed. His name is Igor Danchenko.
He is not some mysterious Russian agent operating in the bowels of the Kremlin. Danchenko is a Ukrainian-born resident of the United States who worked as a senior research analyst for the Washington, D.C. liberal think tank, Brookings Institution.
When the dossier was invented in 2016, the president of Brookings was Strobe Talbott, a long-time friend and ally of Hillary Clinton. Her campaign provided the cash for the phony document that was composed by ex-British spy Christopher Steele.

Talbott helped fuel the Trump-Russia collusion narrative. But it was Danchenko who supplied Steele with most of the false stories contained in the dossier.

The stunning 56-page report revealed how the accusations supplied by Danchenko that Trump colluded with Moscow were false and fictive. Yet, the bureau kept this information carefully hidden.
Instead of revealing the truth and ending the investigation of the president, then-FBI Director James Comey escalated the case. Once fired, he stole government documents and leaked them to the media for the purpose of triggering the 22-month long probe by Special Counsel Robert Mueller that eventually concluded that there was no evidence of a collusion conspiracy.
Make no mistake – it was the dossier that propelled much of the FBI’s collusion witch-hunt, as well as the warrants to spy on Trump campaign associate, Carter Page. Other scant evidence was discarded by the FBI early on, such as campaign adviser George Papadopoulos hearing a rumor that Russians had obtained Clinton’s deleted emails.

Of course, the liberal mainstream media was more than happy to appropriate the Steele-Danchenko garbage. The New York Times, The Washington Post, CNN and MSNBC all treated it as gospel without ever attempting to confirm the accuracy or veracity of any of the ludicrous allegations. It should have been obvious to any responsible journalist that the far-fetched assertions were cobbled together by someone with a motive to smear Trump.

The FBI knew all of this but continued to insist that Steele was reliable and the dossier was credible, even in the face of incontrovertible evidence to the contrary. The bureau scrupulously guarded their secret knowing full well that disclosure would ruin the public’s trust in the FBI.
Attorney General William Barr and Director of National Intelligence John Ratcliffe are to be commended for having the courage to declassify the documents that have exposed the FBI’s malevolence and malfeasance.
Did top officials at the FBI commit crimes? In my judgment, yes. Laws were perverted or ignored. The law enforcers became the lawbreakers.

When powerful forces in government abuse their positions of trust to subvert the legal process, democracy is threatened.
Reverence to the rule of law is lost.
It is now up to U.S. Attorney John Durham to hold corrupt people accountable with criminal indictments.

Prime Minister Scott Morrison has said he fully intends to visit the United States for a summit hosted by President Donald Trump despite the surging number of coronavirus cases there.
The PM also backed two of his ministers who will travel to the US this week for defence talks.
Talking to reporters in Sydney today, Morrison said he will travel to the planned G7 Summit in Washington DC in September.
“I intend to visit Washington myself should the G7-plus meeting go ahead.
“These are important opportunities for Australia. It would be extraordinary if we didn’t seek to attend these meetings,” he said.
“Our alliance with the United States is the bedrock of Australia’s defence strategy. So would it be highly irregular for us not to seek to take every opportunity for those meetings to be held face-to-face and I’m very pleased that they are proceeding on that basis”.
