Radical Dems Defeat SCOTUS Court-Packing Amendment 212-206 — Only One Broke From the Pack

House Democrats overwhelmingly rejected a proposed constitutional amendment Wednesday that would have permanently fixed the size of the U.S. Supreme Court at nine justices, leaving the door open to future efforts to expand the Court.
The measure failed 212-206, falling short of the two-thirds majority required for a constitutional amendment to pass the House.
Only one Democrat — Rep. Don Davis of North Carolina — joined Republicans in supporting the measure.
The proposed amendment, H.J.Res. 28, was remarkably brief. Its operative language consisted of a single sentence:
“The Supreme Court of the United States shall be composed of nine justices.”
If ultimately added to the Constitution, the amendment would prevent a future president and congressional majority from expanding the Supreme Court by creating additional seats — the practice commonly known as “court-packing.”
