A former Islamic State translator has revealed the terror group forces hostages to ‘rehearse’ for their own executions.

In an interview with Sky News, “Saleh” said prisoners were frequently subject to mock beheadings, with their captors telling them it was only a show for the camera.

The defector said this happened so often many hostages believed they would not be killed.

Speaking from Turkey, Saleh confirmed that ‘Jihadi John,’ the masked militant who appears in several IS killing videos, is 26-year-old British citizen Mohammed Emwazi.

Saleh said Emwazi was considered ‘the big boss’ in the extremist organisation.

He told Sky News he was often instructed to lie to prisoners to lull them into a false sense of security.

“He would say to me 'say to them, no problem, only on video, we don’t kill you, we want from your government [to] stop attacking Syria."

"So they don't worry. Always I say to them 'don't worry, doesn't matter, nothing dangerous for you. But at the end I was sure [they would die]."

Saleh also said hostages were given Arabic names to make them feel more comfortable.
