Trump Suspect Ryan Routh Allegedly Left Note: ‘This Was an Assassination Attempt’

Prosecutors said the note and other evidence found at the scene show a need for Routh to be detained while the government builds its case against him.

A court document submitted by federal prosecutors on Monday showed that Ryan Routh, the suspect in the alleged second assassination attempt against former President Donald Trump, allegedly penned a handwritten note that said it “was an assassination attempt” on the former president.

The alleged note was addressed to the “World” and reads: “This was an assassination attempt on Donald Trump but I failed you. I tried my best and gave it all the gumption I could muster. It is up to you now to finish the job; and I will offer $150,000 to whomever can complete the job,” according to court papers.

The note confirming it was an assassination attempt was photographed by a witness who spotted Routh near the golf course, prosecutors say. Soon after Routh was apprehended last week, the FBI released a statement saying it was an attempt on the former president’s life and would be investigating the matter as such.

“He [the former President] ended relations with Iran like a child and now the Middle East has unraveled,” Routh also wrote.

Prosecutors found “a notebook with dozens of pages filled with names and phone numbers pertaining to Ukraine, discussions about how to join combat on behalf of Ukraine.”

Posts made by Routh on X and other social media sites show that he was an avid supporter of Ukraine in the ongoing Russia–Ukraine conflict, even posting images and videos of himself in Kyiv and other areas in Ukraine since the war started. He also made critical comments about the former president, including several in July that referenced the first assassination attempt.
