Welcome, September! Specifically, Sept. 4 marks less than a day before we sit at two months until Election Day. Where are the major parties' presidential campaigns in fundraising for the home stretch? Now we have part of the answer--and it's good news for former President Donald Trump.

WASHINGTON (AP) — Donald Trump ’s campaign says that it brought in $130 million in August, not as much as the month prior but a figure that his advisers said put the GOP nominee in good position for the remaining two months of the general election campaign.

The report continued:

Reporting $327 million on hand at the start of August, Trump advisers said the campaign ended the month with $295 million cash on hand.

The State of California in July passed a law prohibiting teachers and other members of school staff from informing parents if their children exhibit symptoms of gender dysphoria.

The law’s passage created quite a bit of controversy, given that the Golden State is the first in the union to pass such legislation.

Now, at least one city is fighting back.

The Huntington Beach City Council on Tuesday voted in favor of an ordinance that would designate the community as a “Parents Right to Know City.” The measure would require educators to inform parents about information pertaining to their children’s gender identity and sexuality instead of keeping them in the dark:

The law gears the city up to challenge Assembly Bill 1955 that was signed into law by Gov Gavin Newsom, which prohibits school districts from adopting transgender and sexuality notification policies.

City Council members narrowly voted 4-3 along political party lines Tuesday night to approve the law that declares Huntington Beach a Parents’ Right to Know city and would also grant the city attorney the right to initiate a lawsuit on behalf of a resident against the state law.

OPINION:


More than 200 staffers and aides for the GOP’s George W. Bush, Sen. Mitt Romney and the late Sen. John McCain rushed to show their support for Kamala Harris and send out a letter endorsing her, not Donald Trump, for president.

Two hundred! Well, hell’s bells. This is the part where Trump is probably supposed to bite his fingernails in fright and run like a little girl from the campaign trail — right?

Only — wait. As The Hill notes, the “majority of the group also endorsed President Biden in 2020.”

These aren’t Republicans.

These are the typical Republicans In Name Only who’ve gone off the deep end on hating Trump. They’re feverish with Trump Derangement Syndrome.

These are also Democrats wearing GOP buttons so they can get more face time in the media.

CNN, MSNBC, ABC, CBS, NBC and the rest all hate Republicans, but their bookers know that in order to make the claim of unbiased news they must stomach the idea of having members of the GOP on their shows. They seek out the Republicans In Name Only so when the Republicans In Name Only come on their shows and agree with the Democrats, they can pretend like only the most radical of Republicans — the Trump types, for instance — disagree. Then they can dismiss the core conservatives of the nation whose many, many, many voices are represented by these so-called “radical”

Republicans as similarly radical. This is the playbook of these 200.

They’re trying to act like they’re genuine conservatives so the media can then play along with that tag and in so doing, report on how astonishing — shocking! — it is for so many Republicans to pick Harris and her running mate, Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz, over Trump and his running mate, Sen. J.D. Vance of Ohio. Then they can carry on that conversation a bit longer by having all the pundits in the media masquerading as scholars of political science with their pulses on society at-large — by having these giants of media wax long and hard about the deplorable status of Trump, by pointing to the refusal of these 200 to endorse Trump as irrefutable evidence of his deplorableness. Yawn.

“Of course,” these 200 fake Republicans wrote, “we have plenty of honest, ideological disagreements with Vice President Harris and Gov. Walz.”

No, they don’t.

They just hate Trump.

Or, more to truth, they hate Trump more than they hate communism, because that’s what Harris and Walz bring to the political table: communism.

How do you vote for communists while claiming to be Republican?

A House panel has subpoenaed Democratic vice-presidential nominee Tim Walz over charges of hundreds of millions of dollars in COVID-relief fraud.

The House Education and Workforce Committee issued the subpoenas against the Minnesota governor and multiple state and federal departments on Wednesday, NBC News first reported.

Mr. Walz, Minnesota Education Commissioner Willie Jett, U.S. Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack and USDA Inspector General Phyllis Fong have been asked for documents about their oversight operations against the group Feeding Our Future.

Feeding Our Future is accused of having misused more than $250 million intended to feed children during the pandemic.

OPINION:

Vice President Kamala Harris has been the de facto nominee of the Democratic Party for about six weeks now, yet has managed to sit for only one softball interview with a reliable stooge of the legacy media, Dana Bash at CNN. Ms. Harris has diligently avoided taking questions in potentially contentious environments, such as in a news conference or on the campaign plane.

The lead-up to the momentous decision to allow Ms. Harris to answer questions from the stenographers at CNN was so embarrassingly bad that Politico opened its morning newsletter before the interview with a description of the game of Twister that Ms. Harris’ campaign engaged in to determine how best to fulfill the candidate’s unwise commitment to sit for an interview while minimizing the damage likely to result from it.

The eight to 10 Harris advisers working on this issue apparently asked reporters who they thought should do the interview.

Leave aside how embarrassing it is to have to ask reporters — who should be at least at arm’s length from a campaign — who would be the best interviewer for a candidate. It’s ridiculous that a simple question over who should do a single interview would take 10 advisers.

U.S. prosecutors pushing ahead with their case against Donald Trump for contesting the 2020 election are also being careful to avoid staking out positions that could limit the power of President Joe Biden or his successors.

The U.S. Justice Department historically has carefully protected the rights of the executive and indeed, three times during Biden's Democrat administration defended his Republican predecessor in civil lawsuits related to his conduct in office.

But as it pursues a criminal case against Trump, the department is signaling there are limits to its normally broad view of the presidential role.

A revised indictment obtained last week by special counsel Jack Smith, who is leading the prosecution, attempts to overcome a U.S. Supreme Court ruling that former presidents are largely immune from criminal prosecution for acts that are part of their official duties by arguing Trump was primarily acting as a candidate, rather than a president, when he tried to hold on to power.

Trump has previously pleaded not guilty to four charges accusing him of a multi-part conspiracy to block the collection and certification of the election results. He argues this case and others he faces are politically motivated attempts to prevent him from returning to power.

The July ruling by the 6-3 conservative majority court that includes three Trump appointees forces the Justice Department to confront questions about presidential power that have implications beyond Trump's case, according to legal experts.

ActiVote Poll: Harris' Lead Over Trump 'Steadily Cut'

Vice President Kamala Harris' lead in the presidential race over former President Donald Trump has been "steadily cut," according to a new ActiVote poll.

The survey, conducted Aug. 25 to Sept. 2, shows Harris remains ahead of Trump by 1.6 points (50.8% to 49.2%), but those numbers are down from the 5-point lead she held over Trump in the company's last poll, taken Aug. 15-23, Newsweek reported Tuesday.

The latest lead still falls within the poll's margin of error of 3.1%.

"Harris' poll numbers improved steadily for about three to four weeks after [Joe] Biden dropped out, followed by a period of two weeks where it hovered around a 5-point lead," said ActiVote pollster Victor Allis. "In the past five days that 5-point lead has been steadily cut to just under 2 percent."

On the evening of July 13, Republican 2024 presidential candidate and former President Donald Trump came within an inch of being assassinated while at a campaign rally in Pennsylvania. One gunman was killed, one attendee died, and two others were seriously injured.

Throughout history, nine U.S. presidents have been shot, with four unfortunately losing their lives.

Although former President Trump was not a sitting president at the time of the shooting, he served as the 45th president of the United States, and is the presumed Republican presidential nominee in the 2024 election.

Around 6 p.m. on Saturday, while former President Trump had just started delivering a campaign speech, gunfire erupted from just over 400 feet away. Multiple shots were heard, and after the first two, former President Trump raised his hand to his right ear before quickly dropping to the ground to take cover behind his podium.

Secret Service agents immediately rushed to the stage to cover the former president, and once they had confirmation that the shooter had been neutralized, they escorted him offstage—but not before former President Trump could take the time to look at the crowd and pump his fist to let them know he was ok. As the former president left, it was clear that there was a gunshot wound to his right ear and blood splatter on his face.

Reports indicate that the gunman fired from a higher position outside the rally venue and was later shot dead by Secret Service agents. The shooting resulted in the death of one spectator and serious injuries to two others.
