At more than 1500 pages long and nearly a decade in the making, the manifesto detailing Norwegian mass-killer suspect Anders Behring Breivik's murderous "crusade" gives a chilling picture of a self-confessed "monster".

It was designed to bring about the revolution he says is needed to end a centuries-long Muslim colonisation of Europe.

Behring Breivik, the 32-year-old now in police custody, draws together decades of academic research and serves up a dedicated diary of bomb-making subterfuge. The final entry comes just moments before Friday's Oslo carnage.

"I will be labelled as the biggest (Nazi-) monster ever witnessed since WW2," says the Marxist Hunter in what is at times a rambling, at times bewilderingly detailed thesis.

In it, he reveals his admiration for Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin and calls for adherents to spawn large families of white European "jihadists".

"If you are not willing to sacrifice your own life, then I would strongly advise you to make babies and ensure that they will be willing to sacrifice theirs when the time is right," he says at one point.

"I believe this will be my last entry," the document states before closing with a series of posed pictures in old-fashioned military uniform or with an assault rifle - and those sharp, piercing eyes that have stared out of newspapers worldwide since his arrest in the hours following the carnage.

"It is now Fri July 22nd, 12.51. Sincere regards, Andrew Berwick, Justiciar Knight Commander, Knights Templar Europe, Knights Templar Norway," he says in the tract, 2083 - A European Declaration of Independence, using an anglicisation of Behring Breivik's Nordic name.

The Christian fundamentalist, as described by investigators expected to bring Behring Breivik before an Oslo court early on Monday, has now admitted to Friday's double attacks.

The car bomb explosion outside downtown government offices and the subsequent 90-minute shooting spree on a nearby island have now claimed 93 lives.

But police say he has not accepted "criminal responsibility" and his lawyer said on Sunday he saw "nothing reprehensible" in his actions.

The text, seen by AFP, outlines his transformation as he strives to return Europe to an almost medieval racial and religious make-up.

It ranges from denunciations of political correctness to how to cover up the real reasons for purchasing chemicals from China for use in weaponry.

Friday's sickening scenes trigger the start of a "pre-emptive war", he says.

It is "waged in order to repel, defeat or weaken an ongoing Islamic invasion/ colonisation, to gain a strategic advantage in an unavoidable war before that threat materialises."

He said: "We cannot afford to wait around and re-act when it is too late."

The cross of chivalry represents the cover image of a PDF computer file accompanied by a 12-minute video, pulled from YouTube on Saturday night.

He launched his movement in London in 2002, he says, "one of several leaders of the national and pan-European Patriotic Resistance Movement."

Concrete planning for Operation Martyr, as he baptised the events in and around Oslo, began in earnest in the autumn of 2009, with the setting up of "front" companies, including a mining company and a farm to cover his acquisition of materials for military use.

The accelerating reduction in savings earned through these commercial activities represents an eerie countdown to his opening fire.

"In this manifesto, he appears like a loner and someone with a very peculiar intellectual influence," says Thomas Hegghammer, senior research fellow at the Norwegian Defence Research Establishment (FFI) in Oslo, expert on terrorism and violent islamism

"If he wrote 1500 pages, it's pretty obvious he has thought a lot about it."

I understand his motives ! I condemn his actions ! Moslems do not assimilate into foreign societies . they build their mosques & try imparting Sharia law amongst other things . If we did the same thing in their countries how long would we last ??? ( when in Rome !! ).

I don't understand his logic. How is killing so many of his own people going to help his cause? This man is a lunatic.

By my reckoning, from 2002 to 2011 is 'almost a decade'. It says his madness began in earnest in 2009. Read the article before you begin ranting. As for 'Deacde', GamBit, I'm not sure what that is, but the word 'Decade' can be found in almost every dictionary. Perhaps that's what you're looking for?

What a nutjob, killing innocent people for what? He will be prosecuted, George bush won't. Why kill the innocent? what is it going to achieve? Leave others out of your nutjob agenda, use other means to get your point across, We are all frustrated with our useless governments, but killing others going about their daily lives isn't going to achieve one thing. RIP those poor young people.

This guy was a right wing Christian Fundementalist! Just goes to the show that there are nuts in every religion! Wonder if Andrew Bolt will pick up on that?

He was also into Trance Music, war game videos and some pretty hard core horror TV shows. And he was a Mason. On his facebook he lists his religion as Christian. There is no indication he was Christian. He never mentioned anything about being a "fundamentalist" [Stuart, note the spelling!] and nothing that indicated he really was a Christian e.g. no mention that his favourite book was the Bible, which a fundAmentalist would cite. In any case, can't quite get your logic, argument...

I have to ask... didn't ANYONE notice anything strange about him? Didn't he have family? Friends? Caring others? Maybe we need to care more how our neighbours and others are going. Whatever the case my heart goes out to all Norwegians struggling to understand how this could happen.

Sorry GamBit, it was the yahoo person, not you who was the target of my comment about 'deacde'. It doesn't read that way. Hopefully they will be issuing their own dictionary soon because they have their own words. For instance, I saw one that commented about 'stars' taking their clothes off to advertise their perfumes (obviously 'celebrity' perfumes). They wondered if it was 'pron'!

For his punishment he should have all traces of his existence wiped from all records ...all his personal belongings should be burnt in front of him while he slowly chokes to death hanging on a rope. The media will give him what he wants by publising him. The victims should be named not him,

This is a very good example for the idiom “What Goes Around Comes Aground”. I am very sorry for the people and the victims, however, Norway and Mr. Solehime when they helped the Sri Lankan terrorist as Sri Lankan we too faced the same situation for 30 years. Now Norway has pay for all those sins. I think Norway has started pay for the sins committed. I am Sorry for the people once again.

Killers such as rhis man should not get any media attention. His name, photos, etc, should not be published. Only the victims and the crime itself should get media attention, Giving the killer recognition only encourages other lunitics to do the same kind of cowardly acts.

No one who is not an extremist, or a complete loon, can understand how any one can take innocent lives for a cause. I confess after this story, Texas shooting story and the boy who was hung, I’m suffering bad story overloaditis. Yahoo PLEASE gives us a warm and fuzzy story which will remind us that most people are good.

I agree with his views on multiculturalism and political correctness, and the need to act against islamification. He has the right idea that something must be done, but I do not condone killing 93 innocent civilians

What I find more interesting is the way this was reported. Have a look at other mass acts of terrorism and the words monstor and terrorist would be left as is, in this instance though, the word monster is in quotations. Interesting.

This whole concocted news-story doesn't make sense~! - if he was really so anti-islam, then why didn't he attack the nearest mosque(s)?? - do a bit more searching, and open your minds up a bit - he was more likely only a patsy = a fall man; Norway had recently declared itself in favour of the Palestinian state - guess which country is an expert in setting up other countries/parties to make them look like the guilty ones!?

"Ever noticed that it is never "evil tree-hugging greenies" that do this sort of thing? Always conservatives - take note Alan Jones, Andrew Bolt, Piers Akerman, Miranda Devine et al!" And he liked Putin too - that sure makes him conservative - a very poor attempt from Joanne to give him a label rather than simply calling him a crazy murderer. There are not many idiots like this amongst the conservatives, most of them are from the far left.

My heartfelt condolences to all the families suffering because of this massacare. Everyone understands how difficult it is to face this type of situation. Terrorism is a cancer in the world today and must be eleminated at any cost irrespective of the place where it happens. No one has the right to kill any one and everyone in the world has a right to live peacefully. Sri Lankans faced this type of mass murders for 30 years

I hope all the right wing anti-everything hate mongers realise there are lunatics out there that actually listen to this sewage in our media and take encouragement from it. Time Tony Abbott and his ilk grow up and be responsible with our freedom of speech or we will surely lose it by an act of extreme violence.

Knowledge or belief without being tempered by human empathy can be so destructive. The common problem is the inability to have empathy for other people like psychopaths lack. His isolationism, immersion in violence and hatred was the problem. It's a lack of ethics. Humans can make decisions with wilful contempt for the lives of others, this is immoral. Humans can make decisions with wilful disregard for the lives of others, this is amoral and can easily lead to the previous and can be seen...

...in the disasters of the last decade. People can be moral and make decisions for the benefit of others. Isolationism is bad. Getting out in the community is so important. It's not good for people to isolate themselves.

Any strongly held belief can give justification for acts of violence, whether it's a strongly held belief in a religious doctrine or simply a strongly held belief that I ought to be respected, I ought to have access to my kids, I ought to be given my right of way on the road, I ought to be taxed less, immigrants ought to be kept out. Religious belief might give an extra impetus in that I may be eternally rewarded for my action, or eternally punished for my inaction or that the percieved...
