Man arrested at Sydney Airport over New Year’s Eve terror threat

A MAN was arrested at Sydney Airport yesterday after allegedly making threats relating to New Year’s Eve celebrations.
Police from the NSW Terrorism Investigation Squad arrested the 40-year-old man after he got off a flight from London.
They were acting on receiving information from the public.
A search warrant was executed on a home in Chippendale and a storage facility in the inner west.
Documents and hard drives were seized during the search.
The man was taken to Mascot Police Station where he was charged with ‘Documents containing threats contrary to Section 31 Crimes Act 1900 concerning online blogs’.
He was refused bail and will appear at Parramatta Court today.
The threat comes after police successfully foiled a planned terror plot in Melbourne last week.
The plan was to target well known Melbourne locations including Federation Square, Flinders Street Station and St Paul’s Cathedral.
Deputy Police Commissioner Catherine Burn said investigations thus far indicated that latest threat was an isolated incident and all threats were taken seriously.
