BEIJING--China's external debt stood at $1.68 trillion as of the end of June, the State Administration of Foreign Exchange said Wednesday.
That was up from $1.03 trillion of external debt recorded as of the end of March, official data showed.
Medium- and long-term debt accounted for $510 billion of the total, while short-term debt was at $1.17 trillion, SAFE said in a statement on its website.
The regulator said 80% of the debt was denominated in U.S. dollars.
