Tillerson to Press China Over Handling of North Korea Threat

On first official trip to Asia, secretary of state says U.S. also will deepen cooperation with Japan, South Korea

TOKYO—Secretary of State Rex Tillerson slammed “20 years of failed approach” to North Korea and indicated the U.S. would take a more assertive stance with China to tackle Pyongyang’s nuclear threat.

After meeting with Japan’s foreign minister, Fumio Kishida, on Thursday, Mr. Tillerson offered little detail on the Trump administration’s continuing review of policy toward North Korea at a press conference, his first since taking office...
