"Mr. Abbott, who argues that aggressively intercepting the boats saves lives, has urged European governments to follow his model, and some European leaders seem so inclined," the editorial states.

The paper claims Australia's reputation is suffering in the eyes of other countries due to the government's radical efforts to "stop the boats"

The media outlet said Abbott's policies are "inhumane" in regards to the treatment of asylum seekers detained in facilities on Nauru and Manus Islandgoing on to state they are "more hopeless and degrading than the ones that prompted them to flee".

“It is inexcusable that some find themselves today in situations that are more hopeless and degrading than the ones that prompted them to flee,” they write. But the Spokesman for Immigration, Minister Peter Dutton, said "Australia has a lot to be proud of" regarding its border security policies, The Sydney Morning Herald reported

The editorial comes as Rupert Murdoch, News Corp's Executive Chairman, spoke in favor of Abbott in a tweet sent out as he left the country.

Murdoch says the country is almost 'ungovernable' and called for a "snap election" to be held immediately.

The 84-year-old also commented on free trade agreements and the drug scourge across the country.

This isn't the first time the Times has taken a stab at Australia's tough border security.

Last year an article was written on the "boat people" issue calling it a scourge on every member of government.
