Report: GOP to Cast Midterm Convention as Case Against Socialism

Republicans plan to use their first midterm convention next month in Dallas to mount a prime-time argument that Democrats have been captured by their activist left, Axios reported Friday, as part of a strategy to keep the Nov. 3 election from becoming a straight referendum on President Donald Trump.
The two-day gathering at the American Airlines Center on Sept. 9 and 10, confirmed by the Republican National Committee in June, will be the first midterm convention either major party has staged in recent history.
Vice President JD Vance is set to speak the evening of Sept. 9, with Trump closing the event the following night.
Organizers told Axios that Secretary of State Marco Rubio, Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, up-and-coming candidates, UFC figures, and celebrities will fill out the program.
The strategy takes shape against grim numbers for the president.
