Polling Firm Closes, Admits Surveys Were 'Social Experiment'

Median Strategies, a polling company that published surveys showing large Democrat leads in high-profile races, has shut down after admitting its polling operation was a "social experiment" and that its previously released results should not be considered genuine.
The company announced Monday that it had "concluded its polling project" and withdrew all of its surveys, saying they "should not be cited or treated as genuine polling data."
Median Strategies said the experiment was designed to examine how purported polling could spread through the political information ecosystem without independent verification.
The admission came after the firm released a survey showing Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass with a 12-point advantage over City Council member Nithya Raman ahead of their November runoff.
Bass initially touted the result on social media before the poll was exposed as bogus. Her campaign later called for an investigation into possible efforts to influence elections.
Median Strategies also published a poll showing Wisconsin gubernatorial candidate Francesca Hong ahead by roughly 20 points in her race.
Hong ultimately lost, raising further questions about the firm's credibility before its admission that the polling was fabricated.
