Tim Scott Defends Graham Ahead of S.C. Senate Runoff Vote

Sen. Tim Scott, R-S.C., on Sunday told NBC News' "Meet the Press" that there was "no doubt" Sen. Darline Graham is qualified for the Senate, defending his fellow South Carolina Republican two days before a GOP runoff that has been jolted by her debate admission that she is "not that informed on national security."
Scott, who chairs the National Republican Senatorial Committee, the Senate GOP's campaign arm, said he had studied Graham for weeks before backing her in Tuesday's runoff against Rep. Ralph Norman, R-S.C. "Darline Graham is the real deal," Scott said, calling her "highly qualified, incredibly competent, ready for prime time."
Asked how confident he was that Graham would win, Scott answered, "Very confident," and called the choice "easy."
Graham was appointed in July by South Carolina Republican Gov. Henry McMaster to fill the seat left vacant by the death of her brother, Sen. Lindsey Graham, R-S.C. She is now seeking a full term with President Donald Trump's endorsement.
She led a 10-candidate special primary Aug. 11 with 32.7% of the vote and advanced to the Aug. 25 runoff against Norman, vice chair of the House Freedom Caucus and a hardline conservative.
