Donald Trump won’t commit to ‘One China’ policy

DONALD Trump has angered Chinese officials, said he won’t commit to the “One China” policy until he sees progress from Beijing in its currency and trade practices.
In an hour-long interview with the Wall Street Journal, the US President-elect said: “Everything is under negotiation, including One China”.
The policy has underpinned America’s relations with China since 1979, demanding Washington only recognises the government in Beijing, and has no formal dealings with the island of Taiwan. According to the BBC, China sees the island as a “breakaway” province that will be reunified with the mainland government one day.
The statements comes after he chose to accept a celebratory phone call from the Taiwanese leader in December, following his election win.
However, China’s foreign ministry said the “One China” principle is non-negotiable.
