Panama Papers Fallout: Massive Protests Rock Argentina, Demand Mauricio Macri Resign

Protesters are outraged over his involvement in the Panama Papers corruption scandal.

Scores of Argentines flooded the emblematic Plaza de Mayo Thursday night in the Argentinian capital of Buenos Aires to demand the resignation of President Mauricio Macri over his involvement in the Panama Papers scandal, as well as his harsh austerity policies that include ongoing mass firings of public workers.

Macri was listed as a director of Fleg Trading, a Bahamas-based company managed by Mossack-Fonseca, the Panamanian law firm from which the Panama Papers originated. In asset declarations in 2007 and 2008, made when he was mayor of Buenos Aires, Macri did not disclose his connection to the company. Argentine lawmakers may launch an investigation into the president for financial crimes.

Opponents to the right-wing president also took to the streets of the southeast port city of Mar del Plata, where they also demanded that he step down.
