Cameron: 'Deal with Assad will not defeat Islamic State'

Doing a "deal" with brutal Syrian dictator Bashar al-Assad would not help defeat the Islamic State militants, the Prime Minister has told the United Nations.

Speaking to the General Assembly in New York, Mr Cameron warned that "the enemies' enemy is not our friend. It is another enemy."

I know there are some who think that we should do a deal with Assad in order to defeat ISIL.

But this view is dangerously misguided.

Our enemies’ enemy is not our friend. It is another enemy.

Doing a deal with Assad will not defeat ISIL.

because the bias and brutality of the Assad regime is one of the most powerful recruiting tools for the extremists.
