Russia-China Alliance a 'Tectonic World Shift': IMF

International Monetary Fund Chief Economist Pierre-Olivier Gourinchas warned Tuesday that China and Russia could create a financial system to rival that of the United States, spurred on by the sanctions the West has imposed on Russia following its war in Ukraine.
A China-Russian alliance would be a "tetonic shift" for the world economy, Gourinchas said.
"The war increases the risk of a more permanent fragmentation of the world economy into geopolitcal blocs with distinct technology standards, cross-border payment systems, and reserve currencies," the IMF chief economist said.
