‘Rat dog’: Brett Sutton targeted as hundreds of protesters gather outside Victorian parliament
There were tense scenes when Victoria’s chief health officer walked from parliament yesterday to be ambushed by hundreds of angry Victorians.

Brett Sutton copped an almighty barrage of abuse as he walked down the steps of the Victorian parliament in Melbourne yesterday as hundreds of protesters gathered outside the building.
The Victorian Chief Health Officer was called a “rat dog” and a “scumbag” amid a chorus of boos as he walked with Covid-19 Commander Jeroen Weimar while being flanked by police officers.
At the bottom of the steps one yelling woman can be seen trying to approach him directly before an officer pulls her away and another stands in her way with his arms stretched to protect Mr Sutton.
The video was circulated on social media by a protest supporter who said: “Brett Sutton, I don’t think you will ever walk a Melbourne street alone.”
The tense scenes came amid rising anger over the government’s new pandemic legislation.
