President says ‘Go back’ tweet wasn’t racist as lawmakers from both parties condemn his comments

WASHINGTON—President Trump stepped up his attacks on four Democratic lawmakers, claiming one hates Jewish people, as he drew bipartisan rebukes for saying the women should “go back” to unspecified countries.
“If somebody has a problem with our country, if someone doesn’t want to be in our country, they should leave. That’s all,” Mr. Trump said Monday in defending his comment from a day earlier. He denied his tweets about the women—all of whom are minorities—were racist and shrugged off a question about whether white nationalists...
