AAA rating: Our political leaders are put on notice
Standard & Poor's says Australia's AAA credit rating now depends on action being taken to contain deficits.

The refusal of Australian voters to clearly endorse Malcolm Turnbull's agenda to grow the economy and wind back the budget deficit would have costs, The Australian Financial Review said on Monday, including through the likely loss of the nation's AAA credit rating. On Thursday, this inconvenient truth came one step closer as Standard & Poor's downgraded Australia's credit outlook to negative, the first such demotion in a quarter of a century.
