NATO has criticized Russia over Russian combat aircraft's violations of Turkish airspace. The intrusions occurred as Russia continues its airstrikes in Syria.
Turkey says Russian aircraft flew in its airspace on Saturday and Sunday.
NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg told a news conference on Tuesday that the 2 violations did not look like an accident.
He criticized Russia for increasing its military presence in Syria with the airstrikes.
Stoltenberg said he is also concerned that Russia is not targeting Islamic State militants, but is attacking the Syrian opposition and civilians instead.
Russia maintains that the airspace violation on Saturday occurred because of bad weather and says it will take steps to prevent a recurrence. Russia also says that NATO is using the incident to defame the country.
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said in Brussels that he was losing patience with Russia's airspace violations.
Erdogan warned that if Russia loses Turkey, a friend, it will lose a lot.
Turkey's military reported that Turkish F-16 fighter jets came under the radar lock of a Mig-29 fighter while they were patrolling the border with Syria on Monday.
It also reported that the aircraft were targeted by a surface-to-air missile system on the Syrian side of the border.
