OTTAWA -- The Trans-Pacific Partnership trade agreement could face a setback after Canada's federal election Monday, with the first new government in 10 years promising a thorough inspection of the deal reached by the outgoing administration.
The center-left Liberal Party won a majority, ending Conservative Prime Minister Stephen Harper's hopes for a fourth term. The Liberals took 184 of 338 seats in the lower house, while the Conservatives won just 99 and the New Democratic Party 44, according to the Canadian Broadcasting Corp. Liberal leader Justin Trudeau will become the next prime minister.
