Army Martyrs` Funeral
SYRIA- As Arab League called for meeting upon GCC request to discuss situation in Syria, and while as Syria oppositions` groups are still holding their meetings and press releases here and there inside and outside country; Syrian Authorities are still applying a “dire” crackdown on protesters on the ground as uprising and protests enter its 8th month.
Syria state-run news agency SANA reported on Saturday “he bodies of eleven martyrs from the army and security forces on Saturday were escorted to their final resting place from the Military Hospitals of Tishrin and Homs.”
SANA said that Official funeral ceremonies were held for the martyrs who were held up on shoulders and covered with the Syrian flag, while the Army Band was playing the music of the "Martyr" and the "Farewell”.
Also on Saturday, SANA reported that President Bashar al-Assad issued presidential decision No. 33 on forming the national committee for preparing a draft constitution for the Syrian Arab Republic to be issued later according to the constitutional principles.
Earlier on Saturday, SANA reported several violent incidents on Friday and said that “An armed terrorist group on Friday evening attacked a bus ehading from Damascus to Aleppo with more than 22 passengers on board, inuring the driver, a woman and a policeman.”
The bus driver told the Syrian TV that after crossing the Talbiseh Bridge, gunmen hiding among trees opened fire on the buss, causing him to sustain injuries from gunshot shrapnel, adding that he passed out as passengers were screaming and woke up in a hospital.
Dr. Samer Khalil from Aleppo National Hospital said the injured driver was admitted with fragment from a shotgun round in the right eye and that he will undergo surgery to extract the foreign object from his eye, according to SANA report on Saturday.
In Daraa province, a soldier was kiiled by an "armed group" in Inkhel and one person was killed in a "mass quarrel" in Dael, SANA said. The Syrian Observatory reported deaths in both of those towns during Friday's protests.
For their part, Syrian activists told news agencies and media outlets abroad "A young man was killed when forces opened fire on a funeral procession for the child martyr Ibrahim Al-Sheban," in Midan, a commercial neighbourhood of Damascus, said the Local Coordination Committees (LCC), according to AFP news on Saturday.
The activist network added that more than 15,000 people, including women and children, came out to mourn the boy, who was one of 12 killed on Friday when forces fired at anti-regime demonstrators in several towns and cities.
Another young man was also killed on Saturday in the central city of Homs, a hotbed of dissent, where the Syrian army cordoned off several neighborhoods and where pro-activist groups reported heavy gunfire.
"The army opened fire on all the entrances of the Al-Nazihin neighbourhood in Homs, leading to the death of a young man who was heading to work," the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, quoting activists on the ground and also according to AFP news on Saturday.
"The army erected new checkpoints in the neighbourhoods of Bab al-Saibaa, cutting it off from other neighbourhoods," the Observatory said.
In turn, the LCC said the military and security forces backed by armored vehicles had also stormed Homs's Qusayr neighborhood, raiding random houses.
In Idlib, a northwestern province near Turkey, Syrian troops pursued defectors in the course of a military operation to hunt down defectors, arresting 31 people, the Britain-based Observatory said.
"Since dawn, Syrian security forces have conducted a search and arrest campaign in and around the (Idlib village of) Kfar Nubul looking for an intelligence officer who deserted," the watchdog said.
The LCC meanwhile reported AFP that gunfire was heard in several towns in Idlib, citing reports of defections in the area and a night demonstrations broken up by security forces. And gunfire rocked "most of the neighborhoods" in the flashpoint southern city of Daraa, where thousands participated in funerals for people slain in protests amid a heavy security presence, the LCC told CNN.
As Syrian authorities have prevented journalists from independently visiting places of confrontation in the uprising and have banned all but a few foreign journalists from entering the country; Foreign Media sources cannot independently confirm events in Syria.
Reports & News about Syria are still being collected abroad from social media networks and via phone calls done by media agencies with their local and abroad trusty activists, especially on Friday at which the climax of daily and weekly protests could be reached.
The U.N. human rights office estimates that more than 3,000 people have now been killed since mid-March -- about 10 to 15 people every day. Opposition activists have accused officials of killing protesters, but the government has said it is going after armed groups. Syrian authorities blame the unrest on foreign-backed armed groups who they say have killed more than 1,400 members of the army and security forces.
