Rubio Signals No Letup in US Strikes on Iran

The United States will "continue to protect shipping" in the Strait of Hormuz for as long as Iran tries to exercise control over the international waterway, Secretary of State Marco Rubio said Wednesday.
Speaking to reporters during the Association of Southeast Asian Nations foreign ministers' meeting in the Philippines, Rubio said the Trump administration remains open to diplomacy but will not tolerate Iranian attacks on commercial shipping through one of the world's most critical energy corridors.
"We remain open to working it out in a negotiated way," Rubio said. "But right now, they don't seem to be serious about that. And so, we're going to continue to protect shipping."
Rubio added that the United States will continue degrading Iran's ability to threaten international commerce.
"At the same time, we are going to — when the opportunity presents itself — degrade their ability to target global shipping," he said.
