Letter: To rescue Kobani people, U.S. must take a stronger lead

The Islamic State seems about to take the town of Kobani, in Syria near the Turkish border, and with that, most likely murder thousands of innocent people.
I guess this new America is one with all other nations that will just sit back and watch. With all the power between America, the United Kingdom, Russia and China, the world powers have the ability to stop the Islamic State and save thousands, maybe millions of lives. Is it politics or political correctness that allows these massacres to continue?
I don't care what promise our president has made to keep us from war. To stand by and do nothing is shameful and disgusting — no better than a person seeing a woman abused and walking away, as it is "none of our business."
What is happening today is no different than the Nazi destruction of Europe during World War II. We tried to look away then, until we were forced into the battle, and we are repeating history now. I have never been so ashamed of my country as now, as we just stand by and do nothing. What have we become?
