Family of slain American journalist launches fund

ROCHESTER, N.H. -- The family of the New Hampshire journalist slain by Islamic extremists in Syria has created a fund to aid families of other Americans taken hostage in hostile regions.
James Foley was kidnapped in 2012. He was beheaded by members of the Islamic State militant group, a killing depicted in an Internet video posted Aug. 19. Two weeks later, another video showed the slaying of Jonathan Sotloff, another American freelance journalist who attended school in New Hampshire.
Foley's family announced the James W. Foley Legacy Fund on Friday. The primary goal is to support families of American hostages, aid American journalists reporting from conflict zones and promote education for urban youth.
