Trump to Return to South Carolina Days Before Election

President Donald Trump will campaign Thursday in Rock Hill, South Carolina. It will be his second trip to the state in a week as Republicans battle in tightening Senate races there and in neighboring North Carolina.
The Republican National Committee announced the stop Monday.
Trump rallied last week in Clemson, in northwest South Carolina, to boost Sen. Darline Graham, R-S.C., in her race against Democrat Annie Andrews.
Rock Hill is near the North Carolina border and part of the Charlotte media market, meaning the visit could also benefit Republican Michael Whatley in his Senate race against former North Carolina Gov. Roy Cooper, a Democrat, The Hill reported.
Trump campaigned for Whatley last Tuesday in Greenville, in eastern North Carolina.
Both races have reportedly tightened in the final weeks. The Cook Political Report rates North Carolina's race as "likely Democrat" and last week moved South Carolina's from "likely Republican" to "lean Republican."
The Rock Hill stop is part of a final-week swing that also takes Trump to Mississippi on Monday, Texas on Tuesday, Ohio on Wednesday, Florida on Friday, and Iowa on Sunday.
RNC Chair Joe Gruters told Newsmax last week that Trump is Republicans' "secret weapon" in their effort to maintain control of Congress and that the president's campaign efforts will help the party overcome historical trends favoring the opposition party in a midterm election.
"He is an absolute machine. He's crushing it out there," Gruters said on "Carl Higbie FRONTLINE."
"I'm with him a lot. He's delivering our voters."
The president's party has historically struggled in midterm elections, particularly in the House, where Republicans are defending a narrow majority and a number of competitive seats.
Gruters said the party's prospects depend heavily on whether Trump can persuade voters who backed him in past presidential elections to return to the polls.
"The only way we're going to defy history and win this cycle is if people turn out," he said.
"Our best asset is the president — putting him front and center, putting him on the ballot. He's going to deliver. We're going to win."
The election is Nov. 3.
