Why Did Trump Come to the 'Belly of the Beast?' GOP Rep Explains His Strategy With MSG Rally
Leah Barkoukis | October 29, 2024 8:30 AM
Former President Donald Trump held a massive rally on Sunday at Madison Square Garden, with some estimating there were tens of thousands of supporters outside as well. While the Gov. Kathy Hochul types think the 45th president was “waving the white flag of surrender” with his homecoming in the deep-blue city, those on the right saw the event in a different light. Rep. Elise Stefanik thinks New York really could be in play this election cycle—a belief Trump has echoed as well.
When asked by Fox Business’ Stuart Varney what “Trump’s strategy was in coming to the belly of the beast,” Rep. Byron Donalds (R-FL) said it’s because the Republican presidential nominee is interested in campaigning to “all Americans in every state.”
“Because he can go anywhere," Donalds said. "I think campaigns in 2024 and going forward are not just about where you campaign but how you campaign. And to come into Madison Square Garden—his city—a city he helped build, and to say that he's not going to leave New York behind—he said last night in his speech, one of the great lines—he’s willing to work with Mayor [Eric] Adams and Governor [Kathy] Hochul to make New York City and New York state great again, that's his focus. He's campaigning to all Americans in every state, not just in the battlegrounds…that kind of leadership is what America needs right now if we’re gonna make America great again."
