UK seeks to drop Huawei contract over China coronavirus transparency

The United Kingdom's government is seeking to terminate a contract with Huawei over China's alleged lack of transparency during the coronavirus pandemic.

Prime Minister Boris Johnson gave the Chinese-based company a limited role in the country's 5G infrastructure earlier this year. The House of Commons passed a vote on it last month, despite an effort by more than three dozen conservative lawmakers who backed an amendment that would end the partnership by the start of 2023.

The Chinese government's lack of transparency regarding the coronavirus, however, has led to some lawmakers looking for a way to end the partnership immediately.
