To counter China’s squeeze on Taiwan’s few remaining diplomatic partners, the self-ruled island’s leader is expected to offer more aid and investment as she embarks on a tour of Pacific countries.

President Tsai Ing-wen begins her eight-day trip on March 21, featuring stops in Palau, Nauru and the Marshall Islands—three of the six Pacific nations with which Taipei maintains diplomatic ties. It is her first overseas trip this year, and comes as Chinese President Xi Jinping ramps up pressure on Taiwan to hew to Beijing’s demands...
