PARIS—French authorities threatened to ban protesters from the Champs-Élysées and other iconic spots around France after yellow-vest demonstrators last weekend set fires, ransacked stores and clashed with police near the famed avenue.
“We will ban protesters claiming to be yellow vests in the areas that were most affected as soon as we are aware of the presence of extremist elements and their willingness to riot,” Prime Minister Édouard Philippe said Monday.
