Juan Guaidó Recognized as Venezuela’s President by Major EU Countries
The opposition leader’s clear task is to hold fresh elections, the Spanish prime minister said

BRUSSELS—A raft of European nations recognized Venezuela’s opposition leader as the country’s interim president Monday, piling western pressure on authoritarian incumbent Nicolás Maduro as the European Union continued to push for fresh presidential elections to end the political crisis.
The European move deepens the split between western countries and others over the Venezuelan crisis. Russia and China have strong ties with Mr. Maduro and Moscow officials on Monday slammed what they called western interference in the country.
