Pakistani and Indian jet fighters clashed in the skies above their disputed border, with each side claiming to have shot down at least one warplane and Pakistan capturing an Indian pilot, escalating the biggest rise in years of military hostilities between the nuclear-armed rivals.
As the U.S. and other world powers urged restraint, Pakistan’s prime minister publicly expressed concern that recent clashes would spiral into war.
