New York Times metro section braces for staff shakeout

The New York Times metro section is bracing for a shakeout.
Eighty-three percent of the Grey Lady’s metro desk — that is, 44 of the 53 editors and reporters who cover the city’s local news — are eligible for a wave of voluntary buyouts unveiled last week, Media Ink has learned.
The Times has not said how many staffers it is looking to trim in the voluntary buyout. But in a memo obtained by Media Ink, NYT executive editor Dean Baquet said he was looking for “as many as possible.”
