Death toll rises in Mexico after massive earthquake

The most powerful earthquake to hit Mexico in a century has claimed at least 58 lives and triggered an ocean tsunami that threatened to wreak more devastation along its coastline.
“The situation is Juchitan is critical; this is the most terrible moment in its history,” said Gloria Sanchez, the mayor of the town of Juchitan, where at least 17 were killed, in the state of Oaxaca.
The 8.2 temblor struck at a depth of 21 miles at 11:49 p.m. Thursday in the Pacific, about 60 off the country’s southernmost state, Chiapas, according to the US Geological Survey.
