Emergency shuts down Notre Dame, Paris

A FRENCH policeman has shot and injured a man who tried to attack a fellow officer with a hammer outside the iconic Notre Dame cathedral in the heart of Paris, France.
The attacker yelled “This is for Syria” and surged at the officer with the weapon as he was patrolling the esplanade in front of the church.
One of his colleagues opened fire on the assailant, injuring but not killing him. The attacker has been taken to hospital.
Hundreds of tourists were deliberately locked inside the cathedral as the incident unfolded.
