Xi’s Military Purge Leaves China’s Top Command With 2 Members

The formal dismissal of two senior military leaders deepens turmoil at the top of China’s military.

The Chinese Communist Party (CCP) has formally removed two of its most senior military leaders from their posts, completing a legal step that further consolidates regime leader Xi Jinping’s control over the military and appears to leave China’s Central Military Commission (CMC) with just two publicly listed members.

The regime’s rubber-stamp National People’s Congress (NPC) Standing Committee on Aug. 28 voted to remove Zhang Youxia as vice chairman of the CMC and Liu Zhenli as a CMC member. Zhang and Liu were placed under investigation in January. The two men were also stripped of their seats in the NPC. 

The government did not announce replacements for either officer.

The formal dismissal has caused renewed unease within the Chinese military, according to regime insiders who spoke to The Epoch Times on condition of anonymity out of fear of reprisal.

Fox News Media announced on Sept. 3 that Fox Business anchor Maria Bartiromo will be departing the network, effective immediately. 

“We thank Maria for her work over the last 12 1/2 years and wish her all the best on her next chapter,” the network said in a statement. 

Fox News Media did not provide a reason for her departure in its announcement.

Her last Fox Business show, “Mornings with Maria,” was on Sept. 3. The show will transition to a new program, “Mornings with FOX Business,” with rotating hosts, the company said.

Bartiromo’s popular “Sunday Morning Futures” program on the network will now be hosted by Jason Chaffetz, a former Republican congressman who became a Fox News host, it said.

House Democrats overwhelmingly rejected a proposed constitutional amendment Wednesday that would have permanently fixed the size of the U.S. Supreme Court at nine justices, leaving the door open to future efforts to expand the Court.

The measure failed 212-206, falling short of the two-thirds majority required for a constitutional amendment to pass the House.

Only one Democrat — Rep. Don Davis of North Carolina — joined Republicans in supporting the measure.

The proposed amendment, H.J.Res. 28, was remarkably brief. Its operative language consisted of a single sentence: 

“The Supreme Court of the United States shall be composed of nine justices.” 

If ultimately added to the Constitution, the amendment would prevent a future president and congressional majority from expanding the Supreme Court by creating additional seats — the practice commonly known as “court-packing.”

ASHEVILLE, N.C.—U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said on Sept. 1 that all G20 members approved the joint summit statement, except China. 

The disagreement centered mainly on language about sovereign debt restructuring and reducing global imbalances.

Speaking at a press conference after the G20 summit for finance ministers and central bank governors, Bessent said he had hoped to announce a unanimous summit communiqué reflecting “the outcome of the great work” they had done together.

“All but one member of the G20 was able to reach consensus,” he said.

While the president’s details remain fuzzy, he promises the new system — known as superannuation funds — would be better for American workers.

“They have a plan in Australia, which people really like. It’s really worked out very well, incredibly well, and very respected. And we’re going to be talking about that with Congress and see if we can implement it …” Trump was quoted as saying July 6 during a Rose Garden lunch.

Federal investigators interviewed a whistleblower from the office of New York Attorney General Letitia James (D) for several hours on Tuesday after he alleged that staff were directed to target President Donald Trump and his associates, according to a source familiar with the interview. 

Daniel Wiesenfeld, an assistant attorney general now on paid administrative leave, met with criminal and civil attorneys from the FBI and Justice Department, a source familiar with the matter confirmed to the Washington Examiner. The scope of the federal interest and whether investigators have opened a formal investigation are unclear.

Wiesenfeld made the allegations on Friday in an office-wide email sent to more than 2,000 employees, according to a copy obtained by the Times Union, which first reported the whistleblower’s claims. 

In the email, Wiesenfeld alleged that Shamiso Maswoswe, chief of the attorney general’s Investor Protection Bureau, instructed him “to find and pursue crimes committed by specific individuals and organizations affiliated with Donald Trump.”

President Donald Trump is open to a meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin, but he wants it be for a peace deal with Ukraine.

The last summit was last August in Alaska, whereas the president and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy have met as recently as late July.


"Oh, he'd do it if I wanted him. But I want to do it when we're ready to do a peace deal,” the president told Townhall on Wednesday during a travel-focused event in the Oval Office, stressing that he ultimately wants “everybody” to get along.

“Russia's got great land and valuable land. But we could do one summit immediately,” Trump continued.

“I wanna do it when that war is ending, and I think we will,” he added.

Rubio Says Russian Aid Won't Stop US From Hitting Iran

Secretary of State Marco Rubio downplayed the significance of Russia’s increasingly open support for Iran on Wednesday, saying Moscow’s assistance will not prevent the United States from carrying out its objectives in the war.

Rubio made the comments during an appearance on “The Brian Kilmeade Show,” after host Brian Kilmeade confronted him with Russian President Vladimir Putin’s recent acknowledgment that Moscow is providing Iran with assistance.

Putin met with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian Tuesday on the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization summit in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan.

According to The New York Times, Putin told Pezeshkian, “During this difficult time, we are trying to provide you with the assistance you need,” adding that Russia was “supplying you with the necessary goods.”

Kilmeade pointed to the statement as a significant development, telling Rubio that Russia was now saying directly that it was helping Tehran.

Rubio acknowledged that Washington and Moscow are not aligned over Iran but argued that Russian assistance would not alter the U.S. position.

“Nothing that anyone is providing Iran is in any way impeding our ability to act as necessary to protect the United States,” Rubio said.
