Dr. Anthony Fauci and a top adviser who has since been charged for allegedly working to destroy records that were subject to Freedom of Information Act requests edited Bill Gates’ book about preventing future pandemics, according to newly released emails.
Gates wrote to Fauci on Jan. 3, 2022, asking Fauci to look over his manuscript, which he planned to submit to his publisher soon, one of the emails showed.
Five days later, Fauci said he was able to find time to read one of the chapters. He found it “very well done” but also provided some suggested edits, including saying Gates should promote studying viruses in animals to better understand how viruses evolve and promoting antiviral drugs made by Merck and Remdesivir.

WASHINGTON—President Donald Trump launched the President’s Military Spouse Commission by signing an executive order in the Oval Office on Aug. 3.
Military leaders’ spouses will lead the commission to identify issues affecting military families and report back to the president with annual policy recommendations.
“This commission will provide recommendations for improving the quality of life for military spouses so that we can better support both our military families and the entire United States Armed Forces,” Trump said during the White House event, noting that the efforts will “help ensure we continue to give military spouses our very best, so our military can continue to be the strongest military anywhere in the world.”

The non-profit group Citizens United filed lawsuits on Aug. 17 against the U.S. Department of the Interior and Department of State over their failure to provide records related to President Joe Biden’s Promoting Access to Voting executive order, the Federalist has learned.
The two agencies were accused of violating the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA). The lawsuit came approximately two months after the group lodged the related request in June.
The appeal sought any emails or text messages to and from the two agencies mentioning the Promoting Access to Voting executive order and the Hatch Act, which limits certain political activities of federal employees, according to the complaints.

WASHINGTON — President Trump declared on Monday he’s giving Iran one “last chance before decapitation” – betting on lucky No. 13 for his final ultimatum.
Speaking from the Oval Office, Trump claimed negotiations are underway to reopen the Strait of Hormuz as soon as Tuesday after he called off a large-scale “World War II” intensity military operation over the weekend to give Iran a final chance to avoid destruction.
“This is a last chance,” Trump said. “This is the last chance for them to sign a good document.”

Let’s separate the facts from the fiction with respect to the rise of communism in the United States.
Many people appear shocked by how communism has risen in the U.S. in the past several years, but this ascension should not be a surprise, as it has been decades in the making, with one pivotal event.
Going back to the 1990s, many people believed that with the U.S. winning the Cold War, the fall of the Soviet Union, and former Soviet satellite nations in Eastern Europe following Western governmental principles, that communism was on the run, if not dead, but they were wrong. Many European countries were already well down the road of what they called democratic socialism, which, it can be argued, in practice is essentially communism with a hint of democratic principles or simply “communism light.” Meanwhile, the U.S. maintained a more democratic and capitalist stance.

What other word is there for the rough intrusion of tens of thousands of young men into the sovereign territory of a foreign nation?
Surely not even the sappiest leftist in his tattered keffiyeh and “Refugees Welcome” T-shirt would describe the thuggish gatecrashing of an independent nation as “asylum seeking.”
That might be the one and only upside to the extraordinary events in Ceuta this week: the death, at last, of euphemism.

Italy takes ‘extraordinary’ step after 60K migrants rushed Spanish city following socialist leader’s open border policy

Italy has temporarily suspended its free-travel pact with Spain after 60,000 migrants from sub-Saharan Africa suddenly poured into the Spanish city of Ceuta last week — rattling EU leaders.
Italy’s dramatic move, announced by Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, is meant to prevent migrants from entering her country after they flooded into the Spanish territory following socialist leader Pedro Sanchez’s immigration-friendly policies.
She said Italy is taking “an extraordinary measure, adopted to safeguard national security and prevent possible repercussions for our nation.”

Secretary of State Marco Rubio has seen his presidential prospects blossom since joining the Trump administration. It is driven almost entirely by Rubio’s competence in his position, as he understands America’s enemies and America’s power in a way that Democrats, and even some of his fellow Republicans, do not.
Emerson’s polling of the 2028 GOP presidential primary has shown a marked shift in Republican sentiment. Vice President JD Vance, the heir apparent in the GOP, sat at 52% in August 2025, while Rubio was the top polling alternative at a meager 9%, showing that a future primary would be nothing more than a formality on the road to Vance’s coronation. By February of this year, Emerson’s poll showed Vance leading Rubio in a hypothetical race 52%-30%. By May, the shift was undeniable; Vance was down to 36%, with Rubio right behind at 35%.

Tens of thousands of illegal immigrants crossed from Morocco into Spain in a single day, igniting worldwide debates over open-border policies.
Videos and photos of the situation depicted large numbers of mostly young male migrants, cheering and shouting as they illegally crossed by land and sea into Spanish exclave Ceuta on the Mediterranean coast of North Africa, overwhelming local authorities and resulting in dozens of deaths.
While local officials urged Madrid to provide assistance and declare a national emergency, Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez sent troops to help with public security but declined to make the declaration as he visited the exclave on July 31 with other lawmakers.
Ceuta’s president, Juan Jesús Vivas, estimated nearly 60,000 illegal immigrants entered from Morocco. The city’s population is about 83,000.

Jay Clayton will take over as director of national intelligence (DNI) on Aug. 3, according to a social media post by acting Director Bill Pulte.
“I am eternally grateful to President Trump for the opportunity to serve as Director of National Intelligence, while he completed historic declassifications and we right sized the [Office of the Director of National Intelligence]. I have no doubt that Jay will do a tremendous job,” Pulte wrote on Aug. 1 in a post on X.
“I have offered Jay my complete and total support as he transitions to take over this incredible agency!”
The Senate confirmed Clayton as the next director of national intelligence in a 51–47 vote on July 28 after advancing his nomination in a series of largely party-line votes.
