MAGA, for the win: Democrats, zero on shutdown

OPINION:
One of the reasons Americans, particularly conservative Americans, elected Donald Trump as president is that he promised to stand tall and strong and absolute against the forces of leftism that have been destroying our nation’s exceptionalism for years.
And boy, did his impact come through on the recent government shutdown fight with Democrats.
Another president, another Republican president, would have come out swinging, only to drop the bat a bit as the days went by and the Democrats worked with their fans in the press to put the shutdown squarely on the White House’s shoulders. Anther president, another Republican president, and the GOP leadership in the House and Senate would have just as quickly lost their stomach for the fight, and would have at first proclaimed throughout the press their insistence to keep to party principle — to resist, for instance, the Democrat demand to expand the Obamacare subsidies — only to then, quietly, behind closed doors, cut deals with the very Democrats they oh-so-loudly claimed to fight.
In the end, Americans would have picked up yet another tab for the 400%-above-poverty-level types to pay for their health insurance. And wait for it, wait for it. As soon as that bit of bill sailed through, Democrats, emboldened by the win, would have then turned and campaigned for more, more, more tax money and subsidies and fiscal concessions for, umm, let’s see, all the illegals — the poor, hardworking migrants — they wanted to put on a nationalized health care system, too.
Pretty soon, the whole idea of holding the line on Obamacare would have turned into a Democrat dream come true of taxpayer-picked pockets.
All that Trump’s big, beautiful bill stripped would have been put back; all the savings seen from Trump’s cuts to entitlements and social welfare spending and health care for individuals earning more than $62,000 a year would have been eradicated, and Democrats would have in turn called for additional spending. The few Republicans who resisted?
They would have been painted in the media as cruel and hateful. Sen. Charles E. Schumer would have called them out for starving children and senior citizens. Rep. Hakeem Jeffries would have demanded they explain themselves for their acts of inhumanity.
But now?
Now — because of Trump, and the resolute manner in which he governs?
Now, Republicans didn’t just win the shutdown dispute and the budget battle. The Republicans showed that Democrats were using the entire country of citizens as political tools to wage a congressional war that won them nothing in the end. Republicans showed how utterly despicable Democrats have become, to the point of putting out of work thousands and thousands of Americans, solely and petulantly to fight for illegals, fight for the entitlements for those who don’t really need it, fight for campaign wins by pretending to care about the state of a health care system they destroyed in the first place (Obamacare) and now don’t want to fix.
A different president, a different Republican president, would have caved to the press, to the polls, to the far leftist trolls on Day Ten of the shutdown, by Day 20 of the shutdown, certainly by Day 30.
But Trump is neither weak nor easily rolled. More than that, Trump truly cares about America — and American citizens. And in a matchup between perpetually political and self-absorbed Democrats who are trying to move this country down a path of communism, and a president who genuinely loves the American way and respects the American Dream, the smart money’s on Trump. MAGA is still the winning message.
