Corporate China Faces Wave of Losses
Companies are suffering from declining revenues, higher costs and a surge in write-downs on assets

SHANGHAI—The largest number of Chinese public companies in a decade expect to incur annual losses after a weak economy hit businesses and eroded asset values.
A total of 395 companies listed in Shanghai and Shenzhen said they expect to record a net loss for 2018, according to Wind data—the biggest annual tally since at least 2009. The combined losses could total between 289 billion yuan ($43.1 billion) and 335 billion yuan. A year earlier, 224 companies recorded total losses of 125 billion yuan.
