Vatican Finance Chief’s Lawyer Urges Judge to Dismiss Sex Charges
A judge will decide by May whether there is enough evidence for Cardinal George Pell to face trial

MELBOURNE, Australia—Cardinal George Pell, the Vatican’s finance chief, will learn on May 1 whether he will be tried in an Australian court on multiple charges of sexual offenses dating back decades.
A lawyer for the 76-year-old priest, the most senior Roman Catholic official to face such charges, delivered his final submission to a Melbourne court Tuesday. Cardinal Pell, who returned from Rome last year to face the charges and had sat through pretrial hearings since early last month, wasn’t present. ...
