The centre in the village of Venusberg, in the state of Saxony, was engulfed in flames on Friday afternoon – causing some 60 inhabitants of the centre to be evacuated.
German news site tag24 reported that one asylum seeker was forced to leap out of a window to escape the fire.
One 24-year-old resident was left seriously injured, with authorities still unsure about what caused the fire.
Reported in German media suggest the fire began in one of the apartments on the second floor.
Stefan Melter, who works across the road from the centre, told FreiePresse: “Around 4pm I saw rising from the building smoke and people standing at the windows. I immediately called the fire department.
