Dramatic Seahawk delivery for MH370 search
An Australian Navy Seahawk helicopter arrived at RAAF Pearce aboard a Boeing C-17 Globemaster to join the search for missing flight MH370.
The search for MH370
Concealed within an enormous military aircraft, a Seahawk naval helicopter has made a dramatic entrance at the RAAF Pearce base in Perth, as the search effort for flight MH370 intensifies closer to land.
Equipped with specialist search sensors, including radar and infrared technology, Australia's Sikorsky S-70B-2 Seahawks can be used day, night and in all weather conditions, according to the Australian Navy.
They are typically engaged for three-hour trips in low-level operations at sea and can be refueled while docked aboard a ship.
Seahawks can travel at speeds of 270 kilometres an hour and cover a range of 1,295 kilometres.
Friday's Seahawk was transported to RAAF Pearce from Nowra, NSW, on the back of a Boeing C-17 Globemaster, a military transport aircraft, which has a wing span of more than 50 metres.
The plane touched down on RAAF Pearce's runway about 9pm AEST.

A short time later a New Zealand Orion landed on the same side of the base and unbeknownst to onlooking media, the aircraft's crew had reported spotting objects at sea.

The Australian Maritime and Safety Authority announced the potential discovery on Twitter, but said more would not be known until a ship examined the area on Saturday.
The Seahawk will depart for the search zone within the next two days to establish a search base aboard an undisclosed Australian military vessel in the area.
Earlier on Friday Australian authorities revealed the search zone for wreckage of the missing plane had been moved to an area about 1850km west of Perth.
The new search area was also expanded to an area four times larger than the 78,000 square km zone that was the focus of Thursday's search.
Australia's HMAS Success and five Chinese ships were involved in the Thursday search.
