Turkish ambassador: UN must unite against Assad
Ahmet Unal Cevikoz, Turkey's ambassador to London, says the UN should unite and react more strongly to the situation in Syria.

"If Syria continues to reject the expectations or the realisation of the expectations of the international community, the international community has to come forward with a stronger message, that it will not allow the Syrian regime to behave like this any more," he said.
Turkey has, according to Ambassador Cevikoz, asked the UN Security Council to look into the possibilty of invoking chapter seven of the UN charter.
Chapter seven sets out the UN Security Council's powers to maintain peace and allows the council to take military and nonmilitary action when peace is broken.
Ambassador Cevikoz said that this did not mean immediate military action should be taken, 'but a course of psychology over the Syrian regime is what we need today and there should be a solidarity of the international community without exception.'
Turkey has described Syria as 'a clear and imminent threat' after the Syrian downing of a Turkish military jet.
