Petraeus: Iran 'Blinking' on Strait of Hormuz

Former CIA Director David Petraeus said Iran appears to be in the process of "blinking" over the Strait of Hormuz.
Speaking to CNBC at the UBS Asian Investment Conference, Petraeus said Tehran appears to be backing away from efforts to maintain leverage over the critical shipping lane as President Donald Trump’s administration pushes for a broader peace agreement in the Middle East.
"Well, I think Iran is apparently in the process of blinking on the Strait of Hormuz," Petraeus said, while cautioning that major concerns remain over Iran's nuclear ambitions and its support for terrorist proxy groups throughout the region.
Petraeus said that any successful deal must ensure Iran cannot control traffic through the strategic waterway, impose tolls, or threaten future disruptions to global energy supplies.
"I don't think that that can be allowed," Petraeus said.
